Own and lead enterprise media relations for Johns Hopkins Medicine, shaping PR strategy across earned, owned and social channels with crisis readiness and cross-unit alignment.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • drives the development and execution of strategic public relations and media-focused communications programs that advance institutional and external objectives.
  • design, implement, and monitor media strategies and PR initiatives that raise the profile of Johns Hopkins Medicine, inform and engage employees and faculty, and support key institutional goals.
  • identify and pilot innovative media approaches, including earned, owned, and social channels, and develop systems and process improvements to increase reach, message clarity, media readiness, and crisis preparedness across JHM.
  • Serving as a liaison and consultant to business units and leaders, you will ensure media and PR objectives align with institutional priorities, cultivate relationships with journalists and media outlets, and support the Director in creating and operationalizing communications guidelines, media policies, and response procedures across the enterprise.
  • supervising and guiding communications staff, including assigning work, providing direction, and supporting professional development to ensure team effectiveness and alignment with departmental goals.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation to support emergent institutional messaging needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, writing, or related field required.
  • Master’s preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in journalism, media/public relations, or communications; print and web writing and editing, and project management.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and implementing effective communications plans and strategies, and in editing/writing high-quality communications pieces for an external variety of audiences.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation to support emergent institutional messaging needs.
