Job Summary

Own external communications and storytelling for a nonprofit hunger-relief org, turning strategy, donor messaging, and impact data into accessible reports for funders and board. Focus on audience-aware content, multimedia storytelling, and cross-team collaboration to drive donor engagement and community visibility.

  • Communications Strategy: Own the external comms plan and align with Feeding America guidelines across Hawaii partner food banks.
  • Content & Storytelling: Produce donor materiais, annuals, newsletters, and multimedia stories featuring neighbors and volunteers.
  • Measurement & Reporting: Translate metrics into infographics and impact reports for donors, grant funders, and stakeholders, linking program data to narrative impact.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization’s external communications strategy.
  • Write and edit program partner and donor communications, annual reports, newsletters, press releases, and fundraising campaign materials.
  • Create ethical, dignified, and compelling stories highlighting neighbors, donors, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
  • Manage our organization’s website and social media content while growing our reach through social media channels.
  • Coordinate photography, video, and multimedia storytelling projects.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communications.
  • Track and analyze communication metrics (e.g. media hits, web traffic, email open rates, social media engagement) to continuously refine strategies.
  • Collaborate with program staff to track, analyze, and present quantitative data (demographics, outputs, success indicators) and qualitative insights (testimonials, feedback, case studies).
  • Translate key metrics into accessible, visually appealing infographics and impact reports for donors, grant funders, board members, and stakeholders.
  • Support grant reporting and evaluation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, nonprofit marketing, fundraising communications, or impact reporting.
  • Excellent written, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media and digital communication platforms.
  • Exceptional judgment for navigating high-stakes communications and stewarding organizational reputation
  • Ability to tailor content to diverse audiences, while ensuring a respectful approach to sharing the stories of the communities we serve
  • Team-oriented mindset and ability to work across departments to gather information
  • Ability to analyze and present data clearly.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CRM systems, or email marketing platforms preferred.

  • Knowledge of food insecurity, hunger relief, or nonprofit services.
  • Photography, videography, or graphic design experience.

We work toward that goal by distributing food and advocating for improvement in government food programs and food policies. A statewide network of suppliers allows the Maui Food Bank to turn each dollar donated into 6 lbs. of non-perishable groceries, as well as fresh produce, bread, meat, fish and poultry.
