Job Summary

The role centers on high-stakes, issue-focused communications for Raj Goyle’s New York State Comptroller bid, with responsibilities spanning rapid response, content creation, policy research, and narrative development. Candidates should have NY political experience, policy fluency, leadership, and a progressive alignment. The position emphasizes building relationships with media, leveraging digital channels, and framing modernization and affordability messages.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Rapid Response: Manage the campaign’s response to breaking news, particularly regarding state fiscal mismanagement, "do-nothing" critiques of the status quo, and issues like the ICE-linked Palantir investments.
  • Content Coordination and Creation: Oversee and/or coordinate the production of all campaign materials, translations, press releases, op-eds, stump speeches, and digital content. Ensure a consistent "outsider/man-of-the-people/righteous insurgent" voice across all platforms.
  • Policy and Research: In coordination with the Political team, write policy briefs and conduct issue-focused research as needed.
  • Narrative Development: Craft and execute a comprehensive communications plan that highlights Raj’s experience as a defender of civil rights and his progressive legislative record as well as the tangible impact that his election will have on the wellbeing and safety of working people across NYS.
  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for New York’s competitive media markets (NYC, Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, etc.). Build and maintain relationships with political reporters, editorial boards, and influencers.
  • Digital Integration: Work closely with the digital and social media teams to ensure the campaign's message is effectively amplified via the candidate's social media channels.
  • Defining the "Bully Pulpit": Communicate how the Comptroller’s office can be used to improve public transit, health care outcomes and divestment from organizations leading to the harm of civilians in the US and abroad through its auditing and investment powers.
  • The Affordability Narrative: Link the office’s fiscal oversight directly to the daily "affordability crisis" choking New Yorkers.
  • Modernization Messaging: Frame DiNapoli as representative of the old guard, do-nothing politics that ultimately paved the way for the rise of Trump. Tom is the past. Raj is the future.

Requirements

  • Experience: High-stakes communications, preferably in a senior role in a political organization or on a statewide, congressional, or local campaign.
  • New York Expertise: Deep familiarity with the New York State political landscape, including the intricacies of the Albany "Capital Region" and the NYC, Ithaca, Mid-Hudson Valley and Buffalo media ecosystems.
  • Policy Fluency: Ability to synthesize complex financial, legal, and political topics into clear, accessible language.
  • Leadership: Experience managing a team under tight deadlines.
  • Alignment: A shared commitment to progressive values and a passion for using the office of the "Chief Fiscal Officer" as a tool for social justice.
