Job Summary

Own the prospect research lifecycle for major gifts, turning research into actionable donor intelligence and a healthy, prioritized pipeline that informs fundraising strategy and decision-makers.

  • Identify and profile major gift prospects and create briefs for gift officers and leadership to guide engagement.
  • Partner with analytics and advancement teams to build predictive donor models and quantify fundraising opportunities.
  • Coordinate relationship mapping, portfolio reviews, and vendor screenings to expand capacity and refine prioritization across colleges.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Research and qualify major and leadership gift prospects by evaluating giving capacity, interests, and alignment with university priorities.
  • Prepare prospect profiles, briefing materials, and biographical notes for gift officers and university leadership.
  • Proactively identify new major gift prospects through data mining, demographic searches, and related methods.
  • Collaborate with the ARPM team to validate, rate, and prioritize prospects using qualitative and quantitative approaches.
  • Lead additional proactive prospect identification efforts, including relationship mapping and internal/external screenings; may select vendors for screenings or data appending.
  • Partner with gift officers to support strategy development, portfolio reviews, and track cultivation & proposal progress.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least four years of prospect research experience in a nonprofit setting (preferably academic), or a combination of research and fundraising experience; minimum six years in related fields may be considered.
  • Familiarity with CRMs (e.g. Banner, Salesforce, Blackbaud), data visualization platforms, wealth screening services, and research tools.
  • Experience with data querying, mining, and reporting; strong quantitative analysis and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use technology to gather, interpret, organize, and present data; proficiency with Microsoft Office and fundraising research tools.
  • Knowledge of wealth indicators and donor capacity calculations; understanding of fundraising cultures and donor types.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines; strong project and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills, with experience facilitating meetings and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High motivation, creativity, and commitment to donor confidentiality and ethics.
Nice_to_have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Library Science, Marketing, Statistics, Journalism or related field.
  • Experience with proactive prospecting methodologies and understanding wealth indicators.
  • Major fundraising campaign experience.
  • Familiarity with Banner or Cognos for querying and reporting; or equivalent data querying/mining proficiency.
  • Knowledge of Wright State’s mission and Dayton philanthropic landscape; supervisory experience.
