Job Description

Job Summary
As a member of the Athletics Leadership Team, the Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing plans to strengthen and grow the Cal Poly Athletics brand, resulting in revenue generation, successful student-athlete recruitment and retention, event attendance growth and the facilitation of media coverage and other brand storytelling opportunities. The Associate Athletics Director, Marketing and Communication, will report to the Director of Athletics and will oversee the department’s communications and marketing units. This position also has dotted line reporting into Cal Poly’s central University Communications and Marketing (UCM) team to ensure strategic communications and marketing plans are aligned with university goals.

Key Qualifications
  • Experience in the development and production of marketing and communications materials including print, web, photography and video.
  • Ability to keep abreast of campus events and subject matter expertise in relation to current events to identify and capitalize on opportunities that will promote the university.
  • Strong management and leadership skills; ability to effectively lead teams and staff members to achieve goals; ability to foster communication and teamwork.
  • Working knowledge of university infrastructure, policies, and procedures — or ability to quickly learn, interpret, and communicate them — including protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
Education And Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Salary And Benefits
The anticipated hiring range for this role is $100,000 - $125,000 annually. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

Supplemental Information
