Own the athletics communications function end to end, from media relations and game-day operations to published media guides and yearbooks, with staff leadership and external media outreach to raise program visibility.

  • Leadership: set goals for the athletics communications team and lead planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Content & media: manage media relations, press conferences, and publication design for athletics programs.
  • External reach: cultivate relationships with local/regional/national media to place stories and boost visibility.

Job Description

Own the athletics communications function end to end, from media relations and game-day operations to published media guides and yearbooks, with staff leadership and external media outreach to raise program visibility.

  • Collaborates in leadership, planning, and execution of all communication programs, including media relations, video production, athletic web page, radio, internet, and television broadcasts.
  • Oversees the office of athletics communications including: media relations, sports information, print and electronic publication designs and website development and management.
  • Establishes goals, objectives, and strategies for the assigned staff; develops and implements programs and activities to accomplish goals.
  • Serves as part of a department’s leadership team for the planning, creation and execution of athletic communication programs.
  • Manages the planning, implementation, and supervision of media relations activities for the assigned athletic programs.
  • Regularly evaluates programs, assesses progress toward goals, and provides results to supervisor.
  • Represents department at Southland Conference Basketball Media Day and Championships
  • Directs postgame press conferences.
  • Leads the creation and execution of basketball yearbooks.
  • Oversees the development of media guides. Ensures the image of the University’s Athletics program is aligned with University goals, policies and standards, to attract and retain students.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in media relations, including previous administrative and supervisory experience.
  • Experience obtained in a NCAA Division I or Division II institution.
