Job Description

  • Own our social media presence : Manage Book Harvest’s accounts across Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube — from content planning and drafting to scheduling and publishing. Stay current on platform trends, algorithm changes, and emerging formats, proactively identifying opportunities that are a genuine fit for our brand and audience — not just what’s trending.
  • Tell our story through a weekly blog : Produce one blog post per week, either by writing original content or by soliciting and editing contributions from community members, program partners, and Book Harvest staff. Your writing will reflect the voice, values, and heart of the organization.
  • Keep our content engine running : Maintain Book Harvest’s editorial calendar, ensuring a consistent and well-paced content rhythm across platforms and campaigns. Track all media coverage and publicity in our shared Monday.com board, keeping records current and organized.
  • Turn data into decisions : Track and report on social media analytics, using data to inform content strategy and share insights with the External Relations team. Know what’s working, why it’s working, and how to do more of it.
  • Capture the moments that matter : Serve as Book Harvest’s primary photographer at events, programs, and staff moments, building an organized and accessible library of high-quality image assets. Capture video content across contexts and edit — or actively develop the skills to edit — video for use on social media and YouTube.
  • Design with intention : Design promotional graphics and visual collateral using tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, producing materials that are visually compelling, on-brand, and ready for use across digital and print channels. Collaborate with the Chief External Relations Officer on visual campaigns and brand merchandise (t-shirts, hats, bags), coordinating production with printers and vendors as needed.
  • Bridge language and community : Ensure that key content — including social media posts, blog posts, and digital campaigns — is accurately translated as needed, coordinating with translators or bilingual team members to maintain voice and brand integrity across languages.
  • Show up for our community : Provide on-site support at Book Harvest events with a primary focus on content capture and real-time social media coverage. Actively contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven culture through staff and departmental meetings, DEBI initiatives, and ongoing professional development.

Book Harvest

Book Harvest works to realize a world of literacy and justice for all — a world in which every child grows up with an abundant home library from birth and with a love of books, reading, and learning, and every parent feels supported, celebrated, and affirmed in their role as their child’s first teacher. Since 2011, children and families have harvested more than 2.5 million books to build their home libraries and to ensure that parents have the tools and power to ignite and strengthen their children’s literacy. With programs that are grounded in evidence, Book Harvest believes that literacy starts at birth, in the home, powered by parents, and nourished with books.
