Job Summary

Drive ecommerce SEO and GEO leadership across retail marketplaces and DTC to boost organic visibility and revenue.

  • Own end-to-end SEO strategy for Amazon, Target, Walmart, and brand sites.
  • Must-have: 5 years of ecommerce SEO with hands-on marketplace optimization.
  • Standout: Practical GEO approach across AI assistants and platform search.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute e-commerce SEO strategies across Amazon, Target, Walmart, and other major retail platforms, as well as brand-owned DTC properties
  • Lead category-specific keyword research that goes beyond volume — mapping search intent, competitive gaps, seasonal trends, and purchase-stage alignment to inform content, merchandising, and product page optimization
  • Optimize product detail pages (PDPs), category pages, and brand storefronts for both retailer-native search algorithms and external organic search visibility
  • Develop and evolve our approach to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), including how brand and product content surfaces in AI-generated answers, shopping recommendations, and conversational search across platforms like Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and retailer AI assistants
  • Establish and maintain SEO best practices, playbooks, and performance benchmarks tailored to each retail platform's unique algorithm and content requirements
  • Monitor algorithm changes, platform updates, and shifts in search behavior across both traditional and AI-powered discovery channels
  • Partner with UX and Strategy to ensure SEO and GEO principles are embedded into site architecture, content strategy, and creative development from the start
  • Report on performance with clarity — translating rankings, traffic, and visibility data into business outcomes clients care about

Requirements

  • Approximately 5 years of experience in SEO with a strong concentration in e-commerce, including hands-on work optimizing for Amazon (A+ Content, backend keywords, Brand Store), Target (Roundel/Target.com search), Walmart, and similar retail marketplaces
  • Proven expertise in category-level keyword research — you understand how to dissect a product vertical, identify high-value opportunities, and build keyword frameworks that inform multiple workstreams
  • Working knowledge of how generative AI is reshaping product discovery and a point of view on how brands should adapt their content strategies for GEO across e-com and DTC environments
  • Familiarity with major SEO and e-commerce analytics tools (e.g., Semrush, Ahrefs, Helium 10, Jungle Scout, Profitero, Stackline, Google Search Console)
  • Strong understanding of on-page and technical SEO fundamentals as they apply to both traditional websites and marketplace product pages
  • Ability to work across multiple brand accounts and retail ecosystems simultaneously without losing the thread on any of them
  • Excellent communication skills — you can make SEO strategy legible to clients, creatives, and stakeholders who don't live in search every day

Nice To Have

  • Experience in an agency or consultancy environment working across CPG, beauty, QSR, telecom, or retail brand accounts
  • Familiarity with structured data, schema markup, and how they influence both traditional SERP features and AI-generated results
  • Experience with A/B testing product content for search performance
  • Understanding of paid search and retail media as it relates to organic strategy

    Compensation

    • Hourly $125/hr. Open to freelancers, independent contractors, or temporary on payroll.

    Other
