Job Summary

Own the town’s communications and engagement program with a public-sector lens, turning research and messaging into a clear civic narrative for stakeholders and media relations.

  • Communications Planning: Build and execute internal and external plans with research-backed messaging.
  • Engagement & Representation: Lead projects, coordinate consultants, and represent the municipality publicly and with agencies.
  • Content & Research: Produce engagement materials and policy-oriented communications.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the ECO is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive internal and external communications plan and fostering a culture of engagement with Town stakeholders.
  • The Engagement and Communications Officer leads projects, coordinates consultants, conducts research, and composes civic engagement strategies and communications materials.
  • Additionally, the Engagement and Communications Officer represents the municipality to the public and outside agencies, ensuring clear and consistent messaging.

Requirements

  • University Degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or another related field.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in communications.
  • Minimum of two years of recent related experience, including corporate communications, media relations, public engagement, social media, and policy development, preferably in a public sector environment.
  • Valid BC Class 5 License.
  • Knowledge of the Community Charter and Local Government Act.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred

  • IAP2 Certification in Public Participation is preferred.
