Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The intern will assist in evaluating SUNY Press's marketing efforts by tracking review trends, analyzing engagement across email and social media, and assessing the effectiveness of targeted campaigns. They will help identify patterns in audience behavior, benchmark performance against peer presses, and contribute to strategy recommendations particularly for improving digital visibility.
  • The intern may support content creation by drafting promotional pitches for media outlets, podcasts, and social media. They may contribute to blog content, author Q&As, and themed reading lists, and help produce written and video interviews for publicity use.
  • The intern will assist in creating a range of marketing materials, including bookmarks, postcards, flyers, presentation and social media templates. They may help format frontlist content for internal use and external distribution and contribute to individual book marketing plans by entering conferences and award deadlines into our database for tracking.
  • The intern may help maintain and clean marketing databases by updating contact information and resolving bounced emails. They will assist with email outreach by drafting follow-ups to review copy requests and researching potential course adoption leads to support targeted academic marketing efforts.
  • The intern will help log and summarize incoming book reviews, draft promotional blurbs, and update internal records. They will assist in researching and nominating titles for awards and support publicity efforts for key titles through media research, contact list development, and pitch writing. The intern will also contribute to seasonal campaigns by drafting blog posts, curating themed collections, creating social media content, and helping manage in-office book displays.
  • The intern will support preparation for conferences and author events by copying galleys, packing promotional materials, and assisting with booth logistics. They may also draft and schedule related social media posts and may help coordinate follow-up activities.
  • The intern may be assigned special projects related to campaign evaluation, peer benchmarking, or social media performance. They may also assist with general marketing operations and administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled SUNY student
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive work style
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • High digital acumen for appropriate application of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) for copy support and metadata generation

Preferred

  • Coursework or experience in marketing, communications, publishing, or related fields
  • Graphic design or desktop publishing skills (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Canva)
  • Analytical skills and experience interpreting marketing metrics or digital analytics
