Job Description

Own the NJDOE external communications and storytelling engine, shaping mission-aligned messaging, brand voice, and rapid-response media management for statewide education impacts.

  • Strategic Communications Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned to NJDOE priorities and statewide education goals; establish systems and standards for agency-wide communications; advise senior leadership on messaging; develop and maintain brand voice; reflect the Department’s mission, values, and commitment to equity and student success.
  • Media Relations & Public Affairs: Serve as primary media contact or oversee press inquiries; manage rapid-response communications including drafting statements, press releases, and crisis comms; maintain relationships with media, influencers, and community leaders; support the Commissioner speaking engagements with talking points and event coverage.
  • District Storytelling & Content Development: Lead a statewide storytelling strategy highlighting initiatives, district achievements, educator impact, and student success; partner with districts to amplify narratives; produce high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content aligned with statewide priorities.
  • Social Media & Digital Communications: Oversee all NJDOE social channels with a responsive, mission-driven approach; develop a proactive digital engagement strategy; oversee newsletters and website updates; monitor sentiment and inform strategy; ensure accessibility and branding across platforms.
  • Unit Team Leadership & Coordination: Lead cross-functional coordination within the communications unit and related teams to execute integrated campaigns.
