SCL’s marketing and communications lead will shape brand identity, strategy, and cross-channel storytelling for UT Austin’s new School of Civic Leadership. The role builds a high-impact team, partners with Admissions and Development, and directs budget and vendor management. Candidates should demonstrate multichannel experience, leadership in national audience growth, and strong editorial vision.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive, ground-up marketing and communications strategy for the new School of Civic Leadership (SCL).
  • Define and develop brand identity and voice across multiple audiences, building a compelling narrative across all platforms from day one.
  • Serve as a core member of the executive leadership team, shaping the school’s vision and translating strategic goals into high-impact communications initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance to the dean and executive leadership on brand development, institutional messaging, and long-term positioning.
  • Build and lead the marketing and communications team, overseeing recruitment, structure, and performance as the communications function scales.
  • Drive national audience growth and brand visibility through strategic use of social, traditional, and digital media.
  • Oversee and optimize the marketing and communications budget, including management of key vendors, contracts, and signature events.
  • Lead content development across all channels; digital, print, advertising, email, and publications - ensuring consistency and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Oversee publication processes and marketing, providing editorial vision and content execution.
  • Partner with Admissions to develop and execute strategic recruitment communications informed by data and audience segmentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or another relevant academic field aligned with SCL’s objectives
  • At least seven to ten years of experience in strategic communications, marketing, or brand management
  • Demonstrated success in national audience identification and growth, including multichannel campaigns (social, traditional, and digital media)
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred

  • Experience leveraging consumer preference, public opinion, and market research tools to inform strategy and content
  • Prior experience in higher education, mission-driven organizations, or government is a plus
  • Ability to develop original messaging that advances School of Civic Leadership vision and themes
