You will oversee the Commission Support Section, report to the Chief of Staff, and provide policy, legislative and communications support to the Texas Transportation Commission while supervising staff and coordinating with executive administration, government affairs, and other departments.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Oversees activities of the Commission Support Section. Reports to the Chief of Staff. Responsible for providing policy, legislative and other significant information and updates to the Texas Transportation Commission. Supervises professional and technical employees. Work requires extensive contact with departmental executives, managers, government officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work at the highest level of discretion and independent judgment and are responsible for final outcome
  • Essential Duties:
  • Works closely with TxDOT Executive Administration to assist and inform commissioners on developments concerning transportation and the impact on Texas and TxDOT
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Executive Administration and division/district directors in providing analysis and facilitating communications between commissioners and the department on policy and project changes.
  • Coordinates with TxDOT government affairs staff to provide analysis and status of legislation, relations with legislators and state officials, and the results of any significant legislative meetings.
  • Oversees policy analysts who are responsible for providing information, analysis, and updates to commissioners on policies, legislation, significant events, emergencies, and major agency initiatives.
  • Oversees administrative services to the commissioners. This includes travel arrangements, calendars, correspondence, communications, and other administrative requirements to include HR, training, office facilities, IT services, and office supplies.
  • Oversees commission clerk responsibilities for Commission agendas, meetings and minute orders to include creating agendas; editing and posting transcripts; setting up Commission meetings and facilitating presentations and speakers.
  • Oversees the minute orders process to include facilitating the selection and content of minute orders.
  • Provides direct policy analysis support to Commissioners as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in governmental relations, legislative planning or business related. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
