Job Description

Responsibilities

  • lead the university’s Athletic Communications operation and develop a comprehensive strategy to elevate visibility and storytelling for 20+ varsity programs
  • oversee all aspects of athletic communications including media relations, digital/social media strategy, live coverage, branding, and historical records
  • manage creation and distribution of external communications (game recaps, feature stories, press releases, multimedia content) ensuring consistent messaging
  • serve as primary media contact for assigned sports, cultivate relationships with local/regional/national media, coordinate interviews and coverage
  • oversee digital content strategy (website management, social media, live streaming coordination, graphic design direction) to enhance fan engagement and brand
  • supervise and mentor athletic communications staff, interns, and student workers
  • manage statistical reporting, record-keeping, and historical archives; ensure timely reporting to NCAA and conference
  • coordinate game day operations for home contests
  • lead awards and nominations for student-athletes and coaches
  • collaborate with campus marketing and advancement teams to align athletics messaging and support fundraising and alumni engagement

Requirements

  • bachelor’s degree in communications, sports management, journalism, or related field
  • master’s degree preferred
  • prior experience in athletic communications, sports information, or media relations (preferably at the collegiate level)
  • strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • experience managing digital platforms, including websites and social media
  • strong organizational and project management skills
  • ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills

Preferred

  • master’s degree in addition to bachelor’s (preferred)
  • experience with statistical software
  • graphic design tools experience
  • experience in collegiate athletics communications or sports information at the collegiate level (preferred)
