Job Summary

Owns the Library's external communications, community engagement, and marketing initiatives, leading staff, partnerships, and strategic alignment with the Library's mission and plan.

  • Lead department operations and staff development to drive engagement and service excellence.
  • Develop and manage community partnerships and media relations to advance campaigns and programs.
  • Oversee marketing materials, publications, and messaging to ensure consistent brand alignment with the Library's strategic plan.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Welcoming Behaviors and C.C.P.L. Internal Service Standards to encourage approachability and effective interactions with vendors, guests, and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Communicates and collaborates with Library Administration and management team on a regular basis. Assists with system-wide decision making and determining long- and short-range goals to achieve and/or create objectives of the Library's mission and strategic plan.
  • Manages department staff, including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, supervision, performance evaluation, goal setting, coaching, motivation, and action plans. Approves leave requests, timesheets for payroll purposes, and reimbursements for mileage.
  • Liaisons with department, branch managers, and staff concerning introduction and implementation of both system-wide and department projects and procedures, new services, and programs.
  • Ensures the department's effective working relationship with the public, library staff, and administration. Motivates and inspires collaborative teamwork.
  • Coordinates the work and determines the goals of the Community Engagement Department aligned with the Library's Strategic Plan through effective leadership and operation of the department.
  • Develops community partnerships and relationships with community leaders and organizations, government officials, and local media to benefit the Library. Serves as a spokesperson for the Library and manages media calls in conjunction with the Director. Refers inquiries as needed.
  • Supports the development of processes, procedures, and marketing materials related to programming.
  • Oversees the production of Library publications and promotional materials, newsletters, program posters, event calendars, brochures, bookmarks, presentations, annual reports, surveys, signage, messages for electronic message boards and large screen monitors, and press releases, etc.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of the Library's website and social media platforms. Ensures consistent messaging between print and electronic media and responds appropriately to comments and questions. Ensures department maintains project archives.

Requirements

  • Possesses a broad knowledge of public library policy, procedures, services, practices, plans, and issues. Applies Library policies and procedures to situations as encountered.
  • Demonstrates analytical abilities sufficient to synthesize complex or diverse information, conceptualizes projects, uses independent judgment and excellent organizational skills, and is detail-oriented.
  • Is self-motivated; prioritizes and performs duties without direct supervision, determines appropriate time commitments for the task at hand, manages multiple priorities, and concentrates on a task despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills, effective problem-solving and decision-making techniques. Is self-motivated and analytical.
  • Ability to be an effective team member by utilizing skills, knowledge, and support to promote the goals and objectives of the Library. Respects and adheres to the chain-of-command structure for a more effective decision-making and reporting process, including greater efficiency.
  • Performs periodic self-evaluation, and sets long- and short-range goals and priorities for self.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent service skills and effective interpersonal relationships with individuals of all ages, is respectful of diversity and special needs. Maintains composure and demonstrates a high level of courtesy and diplomacy, including effective body language.
  • Maintains excellent and persuasive verbal and written communication skills to interact positively with the public, staff, managers, Library Administration, Board of Trustees, and media . Maintains professional relationships with community leaders.
  • Demonstrates technology skills in using computers and software applications such as word processing, desktop publishing, website creation, photo editing, database management, and graphics software, such as MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, iMovie, Wix, etc.
