Job Summary

Own broad communications for a leading research consortium, shaping messaging, content, and outreach while translating complex climate-science work into engaging stories for MIT News and the MCSC website.

  • Content Strategy and Execution: plan, manage, and refine communications and outreach efforts across multiple programs and stakeholders.
  • Editorial Leadership: write, review, and approve articles highlighting research progress, profiles, program announcements, and event coverage.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • focus on strategically developing, implementing and managing all aspects of communications for the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium (MCSC).
  • manages all content for the MCSC, including conceptualizing, writing, and approving content for a variety of communications and outreach projects.
  • develop articles for MIT News and the MCSC website, which include research and outcomes spotlights that reflect the progress of the MCSC; faculty and student profiles; new program, initiative, or member announcements; and event recaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field
  • a minimum of five years of professional communications experience in higher education or at a research institution or in journalism, public relations, or marketing
  • experience planning and implementing communications strategies
  • excellent written and verbal communication, editorial, and presentation skills
  • experience with print and digital communication, user interface trends, and web design best practices
  • ability to translate complex technical ideas into clear language
  • ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team, build productive relationships with faculty/staff/external audiences
  • strong organizational, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills

Preferred

  • Master’s degree
