Job Summary

Support a public health agency’s communications program by assisting writing, editing, social media, and content management during a 12-week on-site internship in Columbia, SC.

  • Assist in developing and disseminating materials that support the agency’s communications strategy.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, 18+, with eligible student or recent graduate status and at least 15 hours/week availability.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and dissemination of material in support of the agency’s communications strategy.
  • Produce writing, editing and additional public relations support for activities, programs and initiatives.
  • Work in tandem with team members to plan and execute communication initiatives.
  • Researching and developing social media content.
  • Drafting articles for internal and external agency newsletters.
  • Editing and proofreading communications materials.
  • Assisting with maintaining digital and website content.
  • Supporting team members with various communication needs.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship, and meet at least one of the following criteria: enrolled in an accredited institution majoring in journalism, media, digital communications, mass communications, marketing or related field; currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four-year institution); graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four-year institution) no more than two years before the first day of the internship; not a previous intern.
  • Must attach Cover Letter and Resume.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of fifteen (15) hours per week during the semester.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of grammar, composition and AP style.
  • Ability to gather, organize and present oral and written information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
  • Knowledge of journalistic principles and practices.
  • Ability to edit various communications materials.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Graphic Design.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate command of journalistic principles, proper grammar and spelling, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
