Job Summary

Own global communications execution for growth and brand initiatives, including launches, executive visibility, and media engagement across Mattel’s entertainment and AI-adjacent initiatives.

  • Cross-functional Campaign Ownership: Lead multi-team programs with internal partners (Mattel Studios, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, Design & Innovation) and external agencies to drive outcome metrics.
  • Media Relations & Campaign Outcomes: Manage reporter outreach, briefings, pitch materials, and coverage tracking across trade, business, entertainment, digital, and consumer outlets; translate results into actionable optimizations.

Responsibilities

  • The Associate Manager, Global Communications owns and leads the execution of global communications programs that advance Mattel’s growth objectives and brand strategy.
  • This role is responsible not only for delivering communications initiatives, but for driving measurable outcomes including visibility, engagement, and the overall success of key launches and campaigns.
  • The role emphasizes executional excellence across external communications initiatives, including product launches, executive visibility efforts, and the expansion of Mattel’s entertainment offerings.
  • Reporting to the Director, Global Communications, you will independently manage day-to-day decisions within your scope while helping shape communications approaches and campaign strategies.
  • You will serve as the primary owner for key campaigns, initiatives, and business areas, with clear accountability for performance and results.
  • Familiarity with the media and AI landscape is important, along with an eagerness to learn and adapt as the environment continues to evolve.
  • This role offers meaningful opportunities to build strategic communications skills through close partnership with senior leaders and exposure to high-visibility initiatives.
  • You will lead cross-functional workstreams, acting as the main point of contact across internal teams including Mattel Studios, Digital Studios, Investor Relations, Government Affairs, Mattel Creations, Design & Innovation, and the Office of AI, as well as external agency partners.
  • You will drive alignment, ensure progress, and proactively remove roadblocks to deliver best-in-class communications outcomes.
  • This role leads media relations efforts tied to owned campaigns, including reporter outreach, pitching, briefing materials, and coverage tracking across trade, business, entertainment, digital, and consumer outlets.

Requirements

  • Approximately 5+ years of communications experience, ideally with a strong foundation in media relations and/or agency experience
  • Demonstrated experience owning and leading communications campaigns or projects end-to-end, with accountability for results
  • Proven ability to drive measurable outcomes, including earned media impact, campaign visibility, and successful launches
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to operate independently within defined scope while contributing to broader strategy
  • Experience leading cross-functional workstreams and managing internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong media relations experience across traditional and non-traditional channels
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while driving work forward
  • Experience managing external agencies or vendors and holding them accountable for performance
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a demonstrated track record of ownership, leadership, and delivering results
  • Strong writer and storyteller with clear, confident verbal communication and presentation skills
