Job Description

Overview

Dealer Alchemist builds the digital advertising platform that powers automotive dealer websites across the country. Our engineering team of 13 runs two platforms simultaneously: a production WordPress/LAMP stack serving hundreds of live dealer sites today, and a next-generation cloud platform actively replacing it.

We are looking for a Web Platform Support Engineer who will initially focus on owning the operational heartbeat of the production WordPress/LAMP stack, with the eventual goal of helping run the next-generation cloud platform. This is not a ticket-queue role. You will be the person who keeps production running, ships weekly releases, launches new client sites, and works shoulder-to-shoulder with developers, operations, and external vendors to make things happen. Think Level 3 support in the truest sense: broad technical ownership, real accountability, and a front-row seat to a platform migration in progress. This broad ownership is exercised in collaboration with existing engineering leadership, and the role receives technical direction from senior engineers.

What You’ll Own
Legacy Platform — WordPress / LAMP
  • Plan, review, test, and deploy daily and weekly releases across the WordPress platform

  • Diagnose and resolve PHP, MySQL, and WordPress-layer issues reported by clients and internal teams

  • Maintain plugin configurations, custom code patches, and WordPress core updates

  • Own the MySQL databases: query optimization, debugging slow queries, and routine health checks

Site Launches — Scripted & Vendor-Coordinated
  • Execute weekly client site launches using internal automation scripts

  • Coordinate with clients and third-party vendors during go-live windows, serving as the technical point of contact

  • Work with operations and sales support to provision, configure, and troubleshoot new dealer site environments

Next-Generation Cloud Platform
  • Support cloud-hosted microservices and internal tooling running in a containerized GCP environment

  • Monitor container workloads, investigate service-level issues, and coordinate fixes with the dev team

  • Assist with front-end application deployments on edge infrastructure as the new platform rolls out to clients

Systems & Infrastructure
  • Administer Ubuntu/Debian Linux servers on DigitalOcean: patching, monitoring, nginx configuration, and performance tuning

  • Manage DNS records, domain configurations, and SSL certificates across client site environments

  • Work with MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis at an operational level (queries, backups, connectivity debugging)

  • Contribute to and execute Ansible playbooks for configuration management and routine automation

Developer Collaboration
  • Serve as the operational bridge between the dev team and production — translating issues into actionable context and vice versa

  • Support developers actively writing PHP for the legacy platform with environment, deployment, and debugging assistance

  • Participate in incident response: documentation, root cause analysis, and lessons learned

Requirements
Requirements
  • 3–6 years of experience in a technical operations, platform support, or systems administration role

  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of WordPress: themes, plugins, configuration, and PHP-level debugging

  • Solid PHP fundamentals — you can read and fix code, not just restart services or use plugins

  • Strong command of HTML, JavaScript, and how they behave in a WordPress context

  • Comfortable on the Linux command line (Ubuntu/Debian preferred): file system, process management, log analysis

  • Experience managing nginx: server blocks, proxy configs, rewrites, and SSL

  • Working knowledge of MySQL: writing queries, reading EXPLAIN output, debugging schema issues

  • Familiarity with DNS management: A/CNAME records, TTLs, domain propagation, common gotchas

  • Ability to read and navigate a scripted deployment workflow and contribute improvements

  • Strong communication skills — you will be talking to clients, vendors, and developers in the same day

  • Experience with JIRA for issue tracking, sprint management, and cross-team collaboration

Nice to Have
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or DigitalOcean

  • Familiarity with container orchestration at an operational level (log inspection, service health, resource debugging)

  • Exposure to modern TypeScript-based backend or frontend frameworks

  • Experience with edge deployment platforms for front-end applications

  • Comfort with Ansible or similar configuration management tools

  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis beyond MySQL

  • CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, Team City)

  • Prompt engineering proficiency — ability to craft effective prompts for LLMs to support development, debugging, and documentation tasks

  • Agentic AI development experience — familiarity with building or working alongside AI agents and automated workflows

  • General AI tool proficiency — comfortable integrating AI-assisted tools into day-to-day engineering and support workflows

Benefits
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 commensurate with experience

  • Remote work — work from anywhere in the U.S.

  • Unlimited PTO — performance-based flexibility

  • 401(k) with employer matching

  • Comprehensive healthcare — medical, dental, and vision

  • Paid professional development
