Job Description

Title: Web & Digital Technology Specialist

Department: Data & Insights

Manager: Director, Data & Insights

Direct Reports: None

Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000

Role Description

The Web & Digital Technology Specialist serves as our internal owner of all things web. This is not a narrow developer role — it's a hybrid position for someone who can write clean code, manage external vendors, think in systems, and stay ahead of the curve on how the web is evolving. You'll be the go-to person for standing up and maintaining client websites, owning our analytics infrastructure, and ensuring every site we build is structured to be found, read, and understood by both humans and machines. This role offers real ownership and the opportunity to grow alongside a team that moves fast and values people who figure things out.

Key Responsibilities

Web Development & Site Management

  • Build, deploy, and maintain client websites with a solid command of both front-end and back-end fundamentals
  • Work across platforms including WordPress (and page builders like Elementor) as well as modern headless or composable CMS environments when appropriate
  • Evaluate and recommend the right technology stack for each web project based on client need, scale, and maintainability
  • Set up, configure, and secure web hosting environments (DNS, SSL/TLS, CDN, server hardening basics)
  • Own the technical QA process for all site launches and updates

Vendor & Project Management

  • Source, vet, and manage external contractors and agencies for specialized development or overflow projects
  • Write clear project briefs, define scopes of work, review deliverables, and hold vendors accountable to timelines and quality standards
  • Serve as the internal technical liaison between non-technical stakeholders and external dev/design teams

Analytics & Data Infrastructure

  • Own the implementation and governance of analytics platforms across all client properties
  • Set up and maintain Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and related tracking configurations
  • Define and enforce tagging standards, event tracking schemas, and conversion tracking best practices
  • Ensure data integrity across platforms and audit implementations regularly
  • Translate analytics requirements from stakeholders into proper technical configurations

SEO, AEO & GEO Structure

  • Own the technical and structural foundation of SEO across all websites, not content creation, but the architecture that makes content discoverable
  • Implement and audit technical SEO: site speed, crawlability, indexability, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, canonical tags, structured data/schema markup
  • Lead implementation of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) best practices: structuring content and markup so it surfaces in AI-generated answers, featured snippets, and voice results
  • Lead implementation of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies: ensuring sites are structured and contextually authoritative enough to be cited and surfaced by AI-driven search tools (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, etc.)
  • Stay current on how LLMs and AI search engines crawl, index, and evaluate web content, and translate that knowledge into actionable standards for our properties

Emerging Technology & Continuous Learning

  • Actively research and evaluate emerging languages, frameworks, platforms, and tools
  • Bring informed recommendations to the team on when and how to adopt new approaches
  • Serve as an internal resource for web technology questions and direction

Skills & Knowledge

We don't expect proficiency in everything listed below. What we do expect is that you can speak knowledgeably to these areas, ask the right questions, write a solid project scope, and know how to dig in and figure out what you do and don't yet know. Intellectual honesty about your gaps paired with a track record of closing them or knowing when and how to leverage the right resources, matters more to us than a resume that claims mastery of everything.

  • Able to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
