Role Description
We are seeking a Visual Communications & Brand Research Intern to join our NYC-based team. This is an un-paid internship focused on brand research, visual communications, market research, and public-facing company analysis.
In this role, you will study how companies present themselves across websites, social media, campaigns, press releases, presentations, and other public-facing materials. You will help analyze what companies post, how they communicate their mission, how they build trust with their audience, and why certain visual or messaging choices may be used.
This role focuses on the connection between visual communication, brand identity, market perception, and strategic positioning. The intern will help identify patterns in imagery, language, typography, color, layout, tone, content strategy, social media, and storytelling.
Responsibilities include researching comparable companies, reviewing public-facing brand materials, analyzing social media and content strategies, creating simple competitor profiles, organizing research and information/ references, taking clear notes, and supporting the development of content calendars, social campaigns, mood-boards, comparison charts, research summaries, and visual communication briefs.
This role is ideal for a highly organized and visually aware student or early-career candidate interested in branding, visual communications, market research, social media strategy, design analysis, and how companies shape public perception.
Qualifications
- Interest in visual communications, brand strategy, marketing, market research, social media, design, or emerging technology
- Ability to analyze how companies present themselves through websites, social media, campaigns, presentations, and visual identity systems
- Strong visual awareness, including the ability to notice patterns in imagery, typography, color, layout, tone, storytelling, and design style
- Ability to think critically about what companies post, how they communicate, and why certain creative or messaging choices may be used
- Strong writing skills with the ability to summarize visual, brand, and market research clearly
- Strong ability to organize research materials, maintain clear notes, track sources, and structure findings in a reliable way
- Ability to create structured data sets, comparison tables, charts, matrices, and visual summaries from research findings
- Strong attention to detail when organizing references, screenshots, source links, notes, summaries, and research files
- Ability to distinguish between public information, company claims, interpretation, and opinion
- Ability to handle internal company materials with discretion and professionalism
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work closely with leadership in a fast-moving, NYC-based environment
- Strong time management skills and ability to complete assigned research tasks with guidance
- Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, Google Sheets, Excel, Notion, Airtable, Miro, FigJam, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or other approved research and design tools is a plus
- Familiarity with social media platforms, public company websites, campaign analysis, content calendars, or competitive brand research is a plus
- Strong familiarity with open-source research tools and methods for finding, organizing, and evaluating publicly available information
- Ability to gather information from public websites, company pages, social media, press releases, public reports, search engines, and other approved public sources
- Strong judgment when evaluating public information, including the ability to distinguish between verified information, company claims, interpretation, and opinion
