Job Description

Strategic Results is seeking a Technical Writer II to support the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Office of Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) by developing clear, accurate, and engaging communications products that translate complex transportation research into information that is accessible to a variety of audiences. The Technical Writer II will work collaboratively with Government staff, researchers, engineers, editors, graphic designers, and other communications professionals to produce publications, web content, newsletters, fact sheets, presentations, reports, and other written materials that support FHWA's research, technology transfer, and stakeholder engagement efforts.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer who can quickly understand technical subject matter, organize complex information, and develop well-written products that meet established quality standards and project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop written content for technical reports, research summaries, newsletters, brochures, articles, fact sheets, presentations, website content, and other communications materials.

· Interview Government staff, researchers, engineers, and technical subject matter experts to gather information for publications and outreach products.

· Translate technical, scientific, and engineering information into clear, concise content appropriate for intended audiences.

· Organize information into logical, reader-friendly formats while maintaining technical accuracy.

· Revise draft materials based on Government review and editorial feedback.

· Collaborate with editors, graphic designers, publication specialists, web content specialists, and multimedia staff throughout the production process.

· Ensure written materials are consistent with established editorial standards, style guidance, and project objectives.

· Conduct background research to support development of communications products.

· Assist with development of presentations, briefing materials, talking points, speeches, and other executive communications as assigned.

· Support preparation of content for digital communications and website updates.

· Participate in project planning meetings and coordinate writing assignments with project teams.

· Manage multiple writing assignments while meeting established production schedules and deadlines.

· Maintain document version control and supporting reference materials throughout the development process.

· Recommend improvements to content organization, readability, and overall effectiveness of communications products.

Qualifications

Required:

· Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field, and 5+ years of experience.

· Demonstrated experience developing technical, scientific, engineering, or research-based communications products.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to gather, organize, and synthesize information from multiple sources.

· Strong research, interviewing, and organizational skills.

· Ability to write for multiple audiences while maintaining technical accuracy.

· Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred:

· Experience supporting Federal Government communications or publications.

· Experience writing transportation, engineering, scientific, or research-related materials.

· Familiarity with website content development and digital communications.

· Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

· Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility considerations for written communications.

· Experience preparing executive-level communications products.
