This is a leadership role for someone who’s passionate about working with vulnerable populations, specifically unhoused and homeless. As a Social Services Supervisor in homeless services, you'll lead a dedicated team working directly with individuals and families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness—connecting them with critical resources like shelter, permanent housing, health care, mental health support, and job services.
Your day-to-day is providing support and guidance for your team. You will supervise program staff through complex situations, verify funded providers in the community are receiving technical support, lead through innovation, and ensure deadlines are met. This position will also collaborate with community partners and other agencies to break down barriers and open more doors for those we serve.
You will play a critical role in guiding Pierce County’s efforts to end homelessness. You will lead and facilitate two major workgroups that the County Council has designated to assist with stamping out homelessness in our community. This position will provide administrative support and coordination with citizens’ advisory boards, the County Executives, and the County Council.

How To Be Successful In The Role
In this role, the successful candidate must be able to build consensus and relationships as we work with community partners and stakeholders in developing programs, strategies, and plans to address homeless issues in our community. To be successful, the candidate must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing, have strong leadership, facilitation, and presentation skills. In this role, you will be one of the key players in our efforts to end homelessness in Pierce County. You must have a passion for this issue and be willing to work hard to help us tackle it. In this role, you will work closely with various community partners and workgroups who all have ideas on how to address this issue. In your role, you will need strong analytical and leadership skills as you lead your internal staff through data collection and data analysis efforts. You will bring your budget development and monitoring experience as you assist with monitoring and making budget recommendations related to this program. The successful candidate will have the ability to work within a team, have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be a problem solver as you work through issues related to this new program.

Core Daily Responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise the programs contracted for or directly provided by a specific sub-division of the Human Services Department.
• Recommend sub-division plans, objectives, goals and strategies. Determine appropriate implementation and monitor progress.
• Recommend, develop and implement new services. Develop innovative strategies that link services as a continuum of care for clients.
• Supervise the coordination and recruitment of citizen groups, service agencies and other organizations involved in the planning process.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of a designated unit; determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and determine methods for expediting workflow; assign, review and approve the work of subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.

• Graduation from a four year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or social work, and
• Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position with
• At least one year in a supervisory capacity required.
• Positions in specific program areas may require program-related experience, education and/or training.
• May require a valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain the license within 30 days of employment, or otherwise meet the travel requirements of the position
