Job Description
Our client is seeking a Senior Sustainability / Environmental & Social (E&S) Consultant to support an upcoming sustainability and compliance initiative.
The consultant will review and strengthen an existing Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) and related policies to align with internationally recognized environmental and social standards, with a particular focus on the IFC Performance Standards.
This is primarily a review, enhancement, and implementation-support engagement, rather than building an E&S program from scratch. The consultant will assess existing documentation, identify gaps, update policies and procedures, and develop practical materials needed to support compliance.
Key areas of work are expected to include ESMS enhancements, grievance mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, site-selection procedures, E&S policies, and training.
Qualifications
- Significant hands-on experience applying IFC Performance Standards
- Demonstrated experience reviewing, updating, or implementing an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS)
- Experience developing or strengthening grievance mechanisms
- Strong background in stakeholder engagement and stakeholder management
- Experience reviewing environmental and social considerations within site-selection or project-development processes
- Ability to assess existing policies and documentation, identify gaps, and develop practical recommendations and revisions
- Experience developing and delivering training related to E&S policies, procedures, or compliance
- Prior experience supporting projects or organizations undergoing IFC-aligned financing or compliance processes
- Experience with infrastructure, energy, industrial, or sustainability-focused projects is a plus
- Spanish language capability is a plus, but not required
Ideal Candidate
- Senior E&S / sustainability practitioner who has completed multiple IFC Performance Standards-related engagements
- Direct, practical understanding of what is expected when bringing existing E&S systems and policies into alignment with IFC requirements
- Background working with an international development finance institution, multilateral organization, specialized E&S advisory firm, or organizations/projects subject to IFC-aligned requirements
- Able to work independently and translate IFC requirements into practical policies, procedures, documentation, and training
- Comfortable working with an organization that already has an established sustainability framework and needs targeted improvements rather than a ground-up redesign
- Strong written communication skills and experience producing clear, implementation-ready E&S documentation
