Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and evolution of a unified digital content strategy that advances organizational priorities and supports key business units across CAP.org and social channels.
  • Set and maintain high standards for content quality, accuracy, findability, and brand consistency.
  • Translate business goals into actionable plans that drive engagement, visibility, and user satisfaction.
  • Serve as the strategic lead for CAP.org content throughout the transition to the new WordPress platform, establishing an enterprise-wide distributed content model.
  • Partner with Marketing, Communications, and Creative teams to ensure content is coordinated and consistent across web, email, social media, and digital campaigns.
  • Lead cross-functional planning and editorial alignment to create cohesive storytelling across the CAP digital ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise content governance frameworks, including standards, editorial guidelines, workflows, and publishing processes.
  • Establish and train distributed content contributors on digital content writing guidelines optimized for SEO and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), including best practices for structure, metadata, accessibility, and search visibility.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to content owners, guiding decision-making that supports quality, scalability, and compliance.
  • Oversee content operations to streamline workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure consistent user experience across CAP.org.
  • Apply user-centered content design principles to improve clarity, accessibility, and navigational flow.
  • Collaborate with UX teams to ensure content supports intuitive pathways, task completion, and a seamless member and customer experience.
  • Define content performance KPIs and collaborate with analytics teams to measure engagement across web and social channels.
  • Use insights to refine strategy, inform prioritization, and drive continual content improvement.
  • Lead the development and execution of CAP’s podcast strategy, including audience targeting, editorial direction, production workflow, cross-channel promotion, and performance measurement.
  • Partner with internal experts and external collaborators to produce high quality, mission aligned podcast content.
  • Integrate podcast distribution into the broader digital content ecosystem (web, social, email, search).
  • Lead the development and implementation of GenAI content standards, governance, and responsible use practices.
  • Provide training and oversight on prompt creation, content quality review, transparency, and ethical AI usage.
  • Ensure alignment with evolving AI regulations, compliance needs, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, or related field
  • 5+ years of marketing and/or journalism experience
  • 5-7 years of writing and editing experience in a web or communications environment
  • 5-7 years direct web content management experience
  • Experience reviewing content (written and visual) and ability to provide constructive feedback that improves the messaging, tone, clarity, flow, etc.
  • Demonstrated project experience with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Highly experienced at speaking and presenting to both large and small groups
  • Resides within 75-miles of the Northfield, IL office
  • Must have web content management skills with a strong understanding of web technology, information architecture, and content models. Craft CMS and WordPress a plus
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Analytics; familiarity with Adobe Marketo and Sprout Social
  • Experience with Wrike a plus
