Purpose of Position
The Senior UX/UI Designer leads user-centered design for the University’s web and digital experiences. This role owns the end-to-end experience design process—from discovery and user research through information architecture, interaction design, UI design, prototyping, usability testing, and accessibility—partnering closely with content, development, and stakeholders to deliver intuitive, inclusive, and effective experiences that support University goals and user needs. This role will create interface-supporting visual assets and assist with improving digital presentations (UI graphics, simple templates, slides, and banners).
Essential Functions
  • Creates wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs that communicate user interactions, responsive behaviors, and edge cases; guides designs from concept through implementation; provides clear specifications and annotated handoffs for development and QA; and collaborates with developers to ensure accurate implementation across platforms and devices.
  • Improves information architecture, navigation models, page templates, and user flows for complex, multi-level sites and experiences; creates UX artifacts such as sitemaps, user flows, journey maps, and low-fidelity wireframes to guide content and development; and ensures solutions support findability, clarity, and task completion across devices and assistive technologies.
  • Participates in user research activities such as stakeholder interviews, user interviews, task analysis, and usability testing to identify user needs, behaviors, and pain points; synthesize findings into clear experience insights, opportunities, and prioritized recommendations; and translate discovery outcomes into problem statements, success criteria, and measurable design goals.
  • Contribute to shared UI patterns and reusable components, including guidelines, modules, and page templates, to improve consistency, quality, and delivery speed; document interaction rules and component usage to support scalable implementation across sites; and maintain design system artifacts, including scalable component libraries in Figma or Adobe XD, while participating in the iteration and governance of patterns and standards.
  • Partner with developers, content strategists and authors, digital designers, and stakeholders to align solutions to user needs and organizational objectives; communicate effectively through presentations, design critiques, and clear documentation; and support stakeholder alignment by articulating tradeoffs and decisions based on user insights and constraints.
  • Create interface-supporting assets such as icons, UI graphics, and lightweight templates directly tied to UX/UI solutions, and coordinate with creative or marketing resources for campaign visuals and production-heavy deliverables when required.
  • Apply accessibility and inclusive design best practices throughout the design process, including focus states, readable hierarchy, accessible components, and predictable interaction patterns; collaborate with developers to review implemented experiences for accessibility and usability issues and recommend remediations; and incorporate accessibility considerations into designs and documentation, including keyboard behavior, error states, contrast, and component guidance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in UX/UI, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Web/Graphic Design, or a related field with formal design training, and five (5) years of experience designing digital experiences, such as websites or digital products, in a professional environment; OR nine (9) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong portfolio available for review demonstrating UX process and UI execution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a content management system (CMS) environment; Sitecore preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education, an in-house creative team, or a professional agency environment.
  • Experience collaborating with developers and understanding front-end constraints for responsive web experiences.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong visual and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated mastery of UX design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Demonstrated ability in user-centered design methods, information architecture, interaction design, and usability practices.
  • Strong UI design craft: layout, hierarchy, typography, and responsive component-based design.
  • Ability to translate stakeholder needs into clear requirements and effective design solutions.
  • Effective collaboration with multiple stakeholders, content producers, and web developers in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Working knowledge of modern web standards sufficient to collaborate on implementation (e.g., semantic HTML/CSS concepts and responsive behaviors).
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
  • Hybrid work environment (3 days in-office & 2 days remote)
  • Requires occasional evening or weekend hours
  • 10% Travel

  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
