Job Summary

Own the end-to-end communications and crisis readiness agenda across multi-unit health-care organizations, shaping external reputation and internal alignment while maintaining direct media relationships.

  • Growth and Crisis: Identify emerging issues early and coordinate cross-functional responses for crisis and disaster communications.
  • Internal and External Communications: Build strategic internal plans and provide executive support with a strong focus on digital and social media.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Manage relationships with media and key organizational leaders to protect and advance reputation across national, state, and local levels.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for developing, implementing and managing communications planning and public relations initiatives to build community and constituent support, and enhance Sentara's national, statewide, regional and local reputation.
  • This position is responsible for developing proactive strategies and tactics for early identification of potential and emerging issues that may impact AvMed and will engage the appropriate multi-disciplinary stakeholders to manage emerging issues before they become rallying points for external constituencies and will support crisis and disaster communications.
  • The position is required to work closely with organizational leaders, could self-manage and lead projects from conception to completion.
  • Must have direct and regular media contacts and relationships.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of strategic internal communications strategies and plans, including executive support.
  • Must have experience communicating and handling issues in the digital and social media space and have strong project management skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field (required)
  • (Master's Degree (preferred)
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience in public relations, corporate communications, or integrated communications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital communications, media engagement, strategic communications planning, project management, budget tracking.
  • Strong knowledge of incident, issues and crisis communications management in both traditional and social media spaces, preferably at a multi-unit/geographically dispersed, complex business.
  • Knowledge of health care delivery is desired.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
