Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Assignment Editor to support an internet-based communication and outreach program. The ideal candidate will provide editorial process management, synchronize content production across regional contributors, and ensure all deliverables adhere to established standards and content plans. This role plays a critical part in shaping high-quality digital outputs, monitoring site performance, and informing program effectiveness through periodic reporting. Candidates with strong editorial, news production, or international affairs backgrounds will receive additional training on domain-specific processes and online influence frameworks as needed.
HOW A SENIOR ASSIGNMENT EDITOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Editorial Management & Content Oversight
Oversees editorial workflows for multiple online platforms, ensuring adherence to content plans, editorial policies, and style standards.
Synchronizes efforts of regional content providers and editors, ensuring high-quality production and timely delivery of all assigned tasks.
Reviews content for accuracy, clarity, relevance, and consistency with program objectives and audience needs.
Performance Monitoring & Assessment
Monitors site activity, performance, and content effectiveness, identifying trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
Provides input for periodic customer reports by summarizing editorial outputs, site metrics, and key observations.
Supports program assessment efforts by contributing qualitative and quantitative insights drawn from platform performance.
Campaign Support & Platform Coordination
Supports site marketing, outreach, and audience engagement campaigns through targeted editorial planning and content alignment.
Coordinates messaging priorities across contributors to ensure synchronized narratives and cohesive editorial direction.
Recommends adjustments to content production plans based on audience behavior, platform analytics, and evolving program requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
Works closely with internal teams, regional content creators, and leadership to ensure editorial activities support mission objectives.
Clarifies assumptions, refines content plans, and contributes to improved effectiveness of internet-based programming.
Presents editorial findings and platform trends in clear, actionable formats for both internal and customer audiences.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Political Science, International Affairs, Strategic Studies, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Relevant education and experience may be accepted in lieu of formal degree requirements.
Experience: 5–7+ years of relevant experience in news editing, editorial production, public diplomacy, international affairs, or related work; additional experience may be substituted for education.
Regional Expertise: Familiarity with cultures and political/social dynamics of the coverage region is required.
Languages: English fluency required. Fluency in at least one major regional language is preferred.
Security Clearance: Active DoW Secret clearance preferred; highly qualified candidates eligible to obtain a clearance may also be considered.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong editorial judgment and content quality assurance skills
Experience managing digital content workflows across distributed teams
Ability to interpret platform analytics and incorporate findings into editorial planning
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Ability to coordinate multiple contributors and enforce editorial standards

Salary and Benefit Information
The likely salary range for this position is $85,093 - $109,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
