Section 508 Remediation Specialist
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Section 508 Remediation Specialist with a minimum of 3+ years’ experience performing Section 508 remediation. In this role, you’ll be responsible for remediating electronic documents, testing websites, and applications for accessibility, and ensuring compliance with Section 508 and WCAG standards. You will partner with project managers, designers, developers, and content creators to identify and resolve accessibility issues, delivering compliant and user-friendly digital solutions.
The individual we seek will be passionate about digital accessibility and inclusive design as well as detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality work. To be considered you must be a U.S. citizen, able to pass a background check for security clearance, and available to work on-site in Washington, DC.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Evaluate digital documents, websites, web applications, and multimedia for accessibility compliance.
- Remediate Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF documents to meet Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards.
- Conduct manual and automated accessibility testing using industry-standard tools.
- Identify accessibility barriers and recommend practical remediation solutions.
- Validate accessibility using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, and assistive technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate accessibility throughout the development lifecycle.
- Prepare accessibility reports, testing documentation, and remediation tracking logs.
- Stay current on accessibility standards, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
Skills & Requirements:
- 3+ years’ experience performing Section 508 remediation.
- Experience remediating Microsoft Office documents and Adobe PDFs.
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and Section 508 requirements.
- Experience performing accessibility testing using manual and automated techniques.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
- Must be able to work independently and effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
- Dedicated to continuous learning and professional growth.
- A collaborative team player with strong problem-solving skills.
- IAAP CPACC or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification is preferred.
- Experience reviewing HTML, CSS, ARIA, and web accessibility is an asset.
- Experience preparing VPAT or Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) desired.
- Experience supporting government, higher education, healthcare, or enterprise accessibility programs is ideal.
- Familiarity with the following assistive technology tools is preferred: Adobe Acrobat Pro; Microsoft Office Suite; CommonLook PDF; WAVE; axe DevTools; Accessibility Insights; JAWS; NVDA; VoiceOver; and Color Contrast Analyzer.
