Job Summary

Own and coordinate NYS online communications, shaping social media, email campaigns, and paid content to inform public strategy and drive engagement.

  • Content ownership: consult with program staff and agencies to set strategy and execute web, social, and paid campaigns.
  • Governance and assets: maintain the Social Media Style Guide, oversee multimedia production, and supervise content staff for consistency.
  • Governance and tools: test new digital tools, coordinate with IT, and ensure accessibility and compliance across web content.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Consult with program staff and state agencies on online communications, including web content, social media, strategy, and paid advertising.
  • Develop, approve, and manage social media and email campaign content, including scheduling and performance analysis.
  • Maintain and update the New York State Social Media Style Guide while advising on best practices.
  • Monitor state and federal news to inform digital content and strategy.
  • Manage and update website content, ensuring accessibility and compliance.
  • Test new digital tools, report issues, and collaborate with IT teams for improvements.
  • Oversee the creation of multimedia assets, including graphics, photography, and video.
  • Supervise and support content creation staff to ensure consistency and quality.

Requirements

  • Seven years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications.
  • Substitutions: A degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar degree may substitute for experience as follows:
  • Associates degree: two years of required experience
  • Bachelor’s degree: four years of required experience
  • Master’s degree: five years of required experience
  • Promotional: One year of experience as a Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content)

Preferred

  • Ideal candidates are digital content strategists first, with strong expertise in social media management, proficiency in online communication tools, and adaptability to new technologies.
