Job Description

About The Role

Colin Rocker is a full-time content creator (@careercolin), speaker, author, and founder of For The Firsts — a growing professional community for first-generation professionals. Colin is expanding his content presence to YouTube and is looking for a talented videographer and editor to help bring that vision to life. You will be capturing real moments: speaking engagements, events, behind-the-scenes work & life, and the texture of building a legacy beyond a job title in New York City. You’ll then produce a weekly YouTube video, and package it so it reaches the right audience. We are looking for someone with a creative eye, who cares about storytelling, understands pacing & packaging, and can take raw moments and turn them into something people actually want to watch.

Key Responsibilities

Filming

  • Join Colin throughout the week at events, mixers, speaking engagements, office days, and other moments worth capturing
  • Operate as a one-person crew: camera, audio, and lighting when needed
  • Shoot B-roll that elevates the final cut

Editing

  • Edit one YouTube video per week from raw footage
  • Handle color grading, audio mixing, music selection, and pacing
  • Add captions, titles, and graphics consistent with the @careercolin brand

Packaging

  • Design the thumbnail for each video
  • Write an engaging title
  • Develop a description and tags with YouTube SEO in mind

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on shot lists and episode concepts/storyboards before each filming session
  • Maintain an organized footage archive and file management system
  • Stay current on YouTube trends relevant to personal brand and creator content

Creative Inspiration

In terms of look and feel, there are three references that set the tone for this role:

Daniel Dalen is a YouTuber and entrepreneur known for his highly aesthetic vlogs. His videos make his lifestyle seem aspirational without feeling manufactured. The color grading, shot framing, and pacing are all top notch and I’d like to create a similar look and feel.

DailyVee series by GaryVee is shot by D Rock (David Rock). The raw format and candid moments of these vlogs are very special, and I appreciate you learning more about his world with thoughtful lower-thirds for titles/handles and music choices.

The vision for @careercolin on YouTube sits at the intersection of value (education) and vlog (entertaining, inspiring)

What We’re Looking For

  • Based in New York City
  • Strong portfolio of social media-first video work
  • Proficient with professional video editing tools such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve
  • Comfortable filming with a single subject across varied environments (events, offices, outdoors)
  • Familiar with YouTube best practices and the creator content space
  • Bonus: familiarity with @careercolin, For The Firsts, the creator economy, or experience shooting for entrepreneurs, or public figures

Availability

  • Up to 10 hours of filming per week, flexible scheduling
  • One fully edited & packaged YouTube video delivered per week
  • Must be available for some weekends and evenings as events require
  • Open to occasional travel

Benefits

Access & proximity: Work directly with a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and LinkedIn Top Voice in a front-row seat to see how a creator business actually operates. Brand deals, speaking, events, publishing, you will see it all!

Covered travel and event attendance: When needed, you’ll accompany Colin at For The Firsts events, speaking engagements, and brand trips/activations

Room to grow: As we grow, so will you. This role has the potential to touch other platforms and media properties across the @CareerColin / For The Firsts ecosystem
