Mission The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is one of the world's most respected centers focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. The Social Work department is here to help patients, their families, and their caregivers cope with the diagnosis of cancer and to eliminate psychosocial complications as significant barriers to care in Texas, the nation and the world through outstanding integrated programs in patient care, research, education and prevention. The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW or MSSW) from an accredited program approved by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and have either an LMSW or LCSW issued by the state of Texas. Shift Hours: 2 Weekdays a week, no weekends, no more than 19 hours per week, 8am - 5pm. Onsite: The Texas Medical Center. This position has a flat rate of $44 per hour. Summary Provide comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and counseling services to individuals, families and groups. Supports compliance with treatment protocols, advance care planning and assists with resource linkage as a part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Key Functions Conducts biopsychosocial assessments using appropriate diagnostic criteria to recommend, facilitate, and implement interventions for a comprehensive treatment plan. Uses counseling techniques, resource knowledge and linkage throughout the disease trajectory, including end of life, survivorship and bereavement. Participates in continuity of care and/or discharge planning. Facilitates advance care planning. Documents patient care activity in institutional electronic healthcare record in accordance with departmental documentation policy. Other duties assigned. Qualifications - External EDUCATION Required: Master's Degree Social Work (MSW or MSSW) from an accredited program approved by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Work Experience Preferred: 1 year Social work experience in a health care setting. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required: LMSW - Licensed Master Social Worker Texas. Upon Hire or Required: LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Wrkr Texas. Komen, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Komen Training Program to Reduce Breast Cancer Disparities in Black and Hispanic Women seeks to develop the next cadre of leaders in breast cancer disparities research, who will be equipped to develop novel strategies to improve the lives of black and Hispanic women with and at risk for breast cancer.The overall goal of our training program is to recruit highly-qualified graduate students (masters and doctoral) and launch them into research careers focused on reducing breast cancer disparities.
