Job Summary

Own athletic communications for Tampa basketball and support for soccer and other sports, shaping press, social, and media coverage while leading student staff and inclusive storytelling.

  • Own the game-day narrative and media relations for men’s and women’s basketball plus secondary support for soccer and softball.
  • Publish press releases, stories, and social content that spotlight student-athletes, coaches, history, and traditions.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary athletic communications contact for men’s and women’s basketball, and secondary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, and softball.
  • Includes writing and publishing press releases, stories, graphic design and new media coverage for assigned sports.
  • Create social media posts to tell the story of Tampa Basketball, including its history and traditions, and proper showcasing of student-athletes and coaches.
  • Oversee student workers assisting with basketball, including those serving as statisticians, social media assistants, game workers, photographers, videographers and video production.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
  • Periodically assist with putting away items (tables/chairs/stanchions/etc.) associated with volleyball, basketball, and Sword & Shield Room events.
  • Periodically assist with putting away (tables/chairs/stanchions/etc.) associated with outdoor athletic events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be knowledgeable in sports offered at UTampa and have knowledge and experience with NCAA Basketball and NCAA Soccer Statistical software.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Savvy with social media (Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, etc.).
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
  • Ability to adapt to department’s organizations and filing system.
