Job Description

Position Overview

The Dole Institute of Politics hosts a variety of programs during the academic year, such as political discussions, interview sessions, and roundtable discussions. We are currently hiring one Outreach Student Coordinator to support outreach efforts for the Institute’s programs and Student Advisory Board (SAB).
The Outreach Student Coordinator will assist with promoting Dole Institute activities, such as student programming, SAB membership, and community involvement. This position will also work closely with the Communications and Marketing Intern to enhance the Dole Institute’s on-campus presence through strategic outreach efforts.
This position will work under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Student Affairs and in close collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Intern, SAB Student Coordinator, P&P Student Coordinator, and Discussion Group Coordinators.
Hours: 3-7 hours per week; flexibility in scheduling Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday late afternoons/evenings for events as needed.

Job Description

90% - Outreach:
  • Support outreach efforts for Dole Institute programs and the Student Advisory Board (SAB).
  • In collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Intern, lead outreach and marketing for the Dole Institute’s Student Advisory Board.
  • Brainstorm and execute new ideas for student outreach and recruitment.
  • Post events to Rock Chalk Central.
  • Provide an SAB membership presence at campus events, including tabling for internal events and KU events (Unionfest, Hawk Week).
  • Attend regular student meetings, including the weekly marketing meetings, which take place on Friday.
  • Help with flyering in strategic locations and getting on digital boards across campus.
  • Grow and maintain outreach lists for the SAB.
  • Lead efforts to enhance on-campus presence and awareness, including meeting with student organizations and maintaining relationships with campus groups.
10% - Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate regularly with student workers to plan strategic outreach for student events, opportunities, and awards.
  • When in the Dole Institute office, provide administrative support including answering the phone, greeting visitors, and assisting with special projects as assigned by staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the KU campus community, including student groups and academic units, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Knowledge and past participation in the Dole Institute’s Student Advisory Board as evidenced by application materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Work experience that required creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and self-motivation as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing social accounts, including design standards for various platforms as evidenced by application materials.
  • One year experience with Canva and Microsoft Office programs as evidenced by application materials.
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study.

Position Requirements

  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  • It's required to be a current, active SAB member to apply for this position.

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
