Position Summary
In the Narrative Content Writer role, you will contribute directly to the success of Hunt A Killer’s stories and games — writing quests, clues, character voices, and narrative arcs across our slate of mystery games and subscription box experiences. You will be responsible for producing written content for products and assets as assigned, and for properly communicating material and item needs to fulfill the intent of all written content. You will meet assigned deadlines to ensure projects are completed on time, and create quality content by implementing critical feedback, attending playtests, and fulfilling product needs set forth by the Product Development team and other teams (Brand, Sales, Design). You will support the Game Designer in conducting and monitoring playtesting, helping ensure every mystery plays fair, paces well, and delivers a satisfying payoff for our Detectives.
Key Responsibilities
Content & Storytelling
- Contribute to Hunt A Killer’s content and storytelling priorities
- Participate in content projects from concept phase to release, ensuring deliverables meet expectations and deadlines
- Design and script innovative quests/gameplay, with a focus on storytelling and pacing
- Write clues, puzzles, character dialogue, and narrative documents that support a cohesive mystery experience
- Pitch and collaborate on innovations to Hunt A Killer’s content and storytelling, with an eye toward continual improvement in the game and content
Playtesting & Revisions
- Schedule, conduct, and attend remote playtests to ensure games are functioning as intended
- Support the Game Designer in conducting and monitoring playtesting
- Track playtest feedback and bugs, and translate findings into clear, actionable revisions
- Implement revisions based on critical feedback and bugs
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work with other team members to support the design of content throughout a release
- Create content in specific environments to deliver a fun and exciting game experience for Hunt A Killer Detectives
- Collaborate with other teams and departments (Brand, Sales, Design) to develop content and new assets for the game
- Fulfill product needs set forth by the Product Development team and other teams
- Communicate material and item needs clearly to ensure production and fulfillment teams can execute on written content
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Communications, or equivalent degree
- 1+ years of professional writing, narrative design, or game writing experience preferred (internship, freelance, or academic work welcome), with a portfolio or writing samples demonstrating narrative or puzzle-based storytelling.
- Familiarity with narrative design and concepts, including branching storylines, pacing, and clue/puzzle construction
- Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with all levels within the organization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent documentation skills
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and a keen attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects simultaneously
- Comfortable giving and receiving critical feedback in a collaborative creative process
- Experience in consumer goods production a plus
- Experience with tabletop games, escape rooms, or interactive/immersive storytelling a plus

The Legal bits
The salary range for this role is $55,000.00 - $65,000.00, plus eligible for an annual target bonus prorated from the start date. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay position within the wage range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. This compensation range may also be modified in the future.
