The Memory Care Director will be overseeing the memory care unit on a daily basis.
B. CERTIFICATION
It is required that the Dementia Services Director is certified if required by the state in which they work. It is preferred that the Dementia Services Director holds certification in a related field.
C. EXPERIENCE
It is preferred that the Dementia Services Director has one-year supervisory experience. It is preferred that the Dementia Services Director has two years experience in a social or recreation program within the last five years, one of which was full time in a resident activity program for the elderly.
V.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The Dementia Services Director will be responsible for oversight and development of staff through the āPositive Approach to Careāā dementia care program in its entirety.
2. Conduct dementia care trainings for staff, and families that meets standards and exceeds state and or federal regulations. This includes in services, Read & Learn sessions and development of additional relevant trainings.
3. Visit with and interview all new residents and families within two (2) weeks of occupancy to learn more about them and their individual attributes, abilities, background, interests, preferences, volunteer interests and dementia education needs of the family.
4. The DSD and the AD will work together to plan and coordinate programs and services for Memory Care that reflect our āPositive Approachā philosophy in action and are based on the interests and beliefs of residents served, are varied, individualized, fun and engaging.
5. In conjunction with the Health and Wellness Team, conduct initial Memory Care Assessments regarding admissions, and other relevant assessments post move in that may be indicated regarding well-being or recreation.
6. Confer with the Health and Wellness team to develop, implement, document and discuss with families the Personal Touch Service Plan.
7. Ensures that the Dementia Care environment is clean, uncluttered and safe for group and solo engagements as well as family and community visits.
8. Models appropriate interventions, communication skills, therapeutic techniques and coaches care staff in day to day life skills, activities, appropriate interventions, communication skills and ADLās.
9. Develops and maintains positive communications with staff regarding specific activities, communication and techniques that are unique and personal to that one resident, to enable staff and residents to have a consistent, positive outcome.
10. Instrumental in facilitating the āPositive Approach to Careā program regarding family education, needs and services including volunteering, pets and projects within the community. Supports families in understanding dementias and proactively resolves concerns and shares successes.
11. Works with the Executive Director to develop tools, materials and projects. Maintains existing credentials and certifications and participates in local dementia and outside resource groups.
12. Present a professional demeanor that communicates to current and prospective residents the corporate philosophy of service, goodwill, and genuine interest in the residentās unique needs. Conduct yourself and your business at all times so as not to detract from or reflect adversely on the reputation of the community. Handle all resident and family concerns and issues with finesse and in a caring, polite and professional manner.
13. Communicate and channel to supervisor, all resident, family, personnel and other matters and information which could concern or be in any way beneficial to employer.
14. Promote a thorough and continuous understanding among all employees of the importance of the āPositive Approach to Careā program to the quality of life for all residents and prospective residents.
15. Represent the community by giving tours and marketing the community as needed, including presentations for groups and family.
16. Develop and manage, in conjunction with the AD, trained volunteers to assist with activities, projects and engagements, in accordance with the āPositive Approach to Careā Volunteer guidelines.
17. The Dementia Services Director may be assigned to drive the community bus/van by the Executive Director from time to time.
18. Willing to work shifts assigned, weekends, evenings and holidays. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, problem solving, conflict management, budgeting.
19. Perform such other tasks as may be required from time-to-time.
B. OTHER DUTIES
1. Make routine rounds of community residents.
2. Assist with correspondence.
3. File records according to policy.
4. Maintain admissions log.
5. Assist in reporting and resolving complaints and grievances from residents, families, visitors and employees.
6. Prepare and delegate the preparation of food/beverages for residentsā events as appropriate.
7. Plan monthly calendar and prepare and exhibit a bulletin board.
8. Complete forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc. that are not considered as essential functions.
9. Assist the Executive Director and others in developing, implementing, and updating written procedures for discharge planning.
10. Inventory, identify, purchase and monitor equipment, supplies, etc.
11. Update job descriptions in the Dementia Services Director to comply with the mandates of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
12. Maintain a reference library of activity materials to assist the Dementia Services Director in meeting residentsā needs, complying with state and federal regulations and with mandates of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
