Responsibilities

• Engage travel writers, editors, and related media and solicit editorial coverage selling Springfield as a leisure tourism destination. Coordinate domestic and international familiarization tours and site visits. Maintain database of tourism contacts in the department's Customer Relationship Management System.
• Contribute to SCVB Visitors Center operations (Old State Capitol Plaza).
• Write and edit copy for a variety of SCVB initiatives including, but not limited to, press releases, collateral materials, and external correspondence.
• Develop and implement promotions and public relations programs targeting Springfield leisure tourism initiatives that may include direct mail, electronic communications, and social media campaigns.
• Act as a liaison between SCVB and the media when the Tourism Manager is not available.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management, or a related field of study and five years of marketing or media experience; or any combination of education and experience.
• Requires use of a vehicle for business purposes.
• Valid Illinois Class D driver's license required.
• Must pass the required background investigation and sign the departmental confidentiality statement.
• To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.
