Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, maintainable code (TypeScript/JavaScript; Python a plus) within our Next.js / React codebase to manage the site and automate marketing operations.
  • Publish and update content programmatically β€” create, edit, and restructure pages and posts at scale via code and APIs (REST/GraphQL, headless CMS, MDX, or our data layer), so our content specialist's work goes live cleanly and fast.
  • Own the jointcommerce.com/blog end to end: create, update, migrate, and bulk-manage all blog posts programmatically, including large-scale updates across the full archive.
  • Manage content and SEO fields across our tens of thousands of programmatically generated pages (strains, dispensaries, brands, state pages) β€” titles, meta, schema, canonicals, redirects, and internal linking β€” through templates and scripts.
  • Maintain and evolve the website through the upcoming marketplace launch and continue updating and extending it afterward β€” treat the site as a living product, not a one-time build.
  • Build, modify, and maintain site templates, components, and layouts within the Next.js app.
  • Build integrations and automations between marketing tools, the content layer, and internal systems via APIs and webhooks.
  • Use version control (Git) and follow good development practices β€” branching, code review, and testing.
  • Partner with core engineering on larger initiatives, but own and ship day-to-day site and content updates independently.
  • Own and maintain our Google Tag Manager (GTM) setup β€” containers, triggers, variables, and version control.
  • Implement and QA tracking across the site: GA4 events, conversion tracking, and marketing pixels, accounting for the advertising restrictions in the cannabis industry (where standard paid channels are limited and organic/owned channels carry more weight).
  • Set up and validate marketplace conversion events (sign-ups, dispensary/brand claims, lead and referral actions, cart/deal interactions) and make sure they fire accurately.
  • Build and maintain a clean data layer, implementing tracking directly in the Next.js codebase where needed; evaluate server-side tracking to improve data quality and reduce platform/account risk common to the cannabis vertical.
  • Configure GA4 properties, custom events, audiences, and reporting; troubleshoot data discrepancies.
  • Ensure tracking and the site stay compliant with privacy and industry requirements β€” consent management (Consent Mode), CCPA, cookie consent, and age-gating (21+ / state-by-state legality).
  • Build dashboards and reports that turn tracking data into something the team can act on.
  • Own and maintain the SEO architecture for a large directory/marketplace β€” site structure, URL strategy, internal-linking systems, and the templating behind tens of thousands of generated pages.
  • Implement on-page and structured-data requirements at the template level (schema markup for local business / products / articles, canonical tags, meta handling) so SEO scales automatically with new pages.
  • Handle technical SEO: Core Web Vitals / site speed, crawlability and crawl budget, indexing, redirects, and dynamic sitemap generation.
  • Build the tooling and workflows that let the content team optimize and publish efficiently.
