Responsibilities

  • General Summary The Content Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and executing the church's content strategy across all communication channels to support the mission, vision, and ministry objectives of the church. This role oversees content creation, editorial planning, storytelling, and digital engagement while ensuring that all messaging is clear, compelling, spiritually aligned, and consistent with the church's brand. The Content Manager serves as the strategic lead for written and digital content, partnering with ministry leaders, pastors, and creative teams to communicate life change stories, promote ministry initiatives, and engage members and guests through meaningful content. Supervisory Responsibilities This role is an individual contributor and may supervise contractors, interns, and volunteers.
  • Content Strategy & Planning Develop and implement a comprehensive content strategy aligned with church goals and ministry priorities. Create and maintain an annual editorial and content calendar. Ensure content supports church-wide campaigns, sermon series, events, discipleship initiatives, and outreach efforts. Establish content standards, style guides, and messaging frameworks.
  • Content Development Write, edit, and publish high-quality content for: Website Email campaigns Social media platforms Mobile app communications Digital signage Print materials Ministry resources Promotional campaigns Oversee content development from concept through publication. Ensure consistency in voice, tone, theology, and brand standards across all channels.
  • Storytelling & Ministry Engagement Identify and capture stories of life change throughout the congregation. Conduct interviews and gather testimonies from members, volunteers, ministry leaders, and staff. Collaborate with pastors and ministry leaders to translate ministry vision into engaging content. Create compelling narratives that inspire participation, generosity, discipleship, and community engagement.
  • Digital & Audience Engagement Optimize content for engagement across digital platforms. Monitor content performance metrics and audience behavior. Use data and analytics to recommend content improvements. Stay current on digital communication trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Project & Workflow Management Manage content production schedules and deadlines. Coordinate with graphic designers, videographers, photographers, and ministry teams. Prioritize content requests and ensure timely delivery. Develop workflows and processes to improve communication effectiveness.
  • Brand Stewardship Protect and strengthen the church's brand voice and messaging. Ensure all content reflects the mission, values, and biblical beliefs of the church. Review and approve content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Provide guidance and training to ministry teams regarding communication standards.
  • Leadership Responsibilities Foster collaboration between communications, ministry, and operational teams. Lead content planning meetings and communication reviews. Develop communication strategies that support church growth and member engagement. Mentor staff, volunteers, and content contributors as needed.
  • Faith & Ministry Expectations Demonstrates a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and values of the church. Models Christian character and professionalism. Participates in the life and ministry of the church. Maintains confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of ministry.
  • Physical Requirements An employee in this position primarily works in a typical office or sanctuary environment, is generally sedentary, and uses computers, calculators, phones, and other office equipment to draft documents, communicate with church staff, and fulfill other position duties. An employee in this position is required to walk, hear, speak, and stand to conduct sermons and minister to the members (both at the main church and at remote locations). Work is conducted in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through both complex church business situations and profound personal crises that members may experience is required. A flexible schedule is required since this position requires evening and weekend work due to scheduled events.

Requirements

  • Education Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Digital Media, or related field preferred.
  • Experience Minimum 3-5 years of experience in content creation, communications, marketing, journalism, or digital media.
  • Experience developing multi-channel communication strategies.
  • Knowledge & Skills Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
  • Strong storytelling and content strategy skills.
  • Understanding of SEO and digital engagement best practices.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Proficiency with email marketing platforms and social media management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Digital Media, or related field preferred.
  • Prior church, ministry, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization experience preferred.
