Job Description
Manages the staff and activities of social work services. Ensures quality assurance and continuous quality improvement of social work services. Establishes and reinforces policies and procedures for the effective functioning of the department. Assesses need for Social Work services for individual, family and/or group intervention.
Manages and supervises day-to-day operations of bereavement services for Hospice
families and the community.
Job Responsibility
  • Provides direct management and leadership to team members and supervisors of Social Work Services by communicating and guiding toward achieving department objectives.
  • Develops, communicates, and builds consensus for goals in alignment with the health system.
  • Collaborates with clinical team members to set goals and objectives for the Social Work division of the department in accordance with institutional goals.
  • Responsible for management of staff schedules, daily assignments and staffing patterns that optimize operational service.
  • Interviews, selects, manages, and evaluates staff social workers; assesses competency and completes annual assessments of direct reports.
  • Provides clinical supervision, as applicable, to social work staff; coordinates the social work program.
  • Reviews hospital and departmental policies and guidelines and ensures communication to staff and monitors compliance.
  • Participates in program planning; identifies gaps in service and programs and makes recommendations for meeting individual and departmental needs.
  • Confers with professional, administrative, and medical staff with regard to resolution of problem situations.

Job Qualification
  • Master of Social Work required.
  • Current License to practice as a Clinical Social Worker in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience.
  • 2-5 years of leadership / management experience, required.
  • This position will have oversight of both the Bereavement Services and field Social Work for Hospice Care Network.
  • Hospice Care experience is strongly preferred.
