Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies and facilitate a comprehensive and integrated campus and community relations program with measurable objectives to review and evaluate the success of engagement strategies. (20%)
  • Supervise and mentor the Outreach and Engagement coordinator to include clear goal setting, regular feedback, and strong support for growth. Consider professional development opportunities annually and initiate and complete regular individual check-ins and performance reviews. (15%)
  • Work collaboratively with library staff, faculty, and student groups to offer and coordinate services to enhance visibility and accurately project the key messages and image of the Kelvin Smith Library¿s educational and research mission. Coordinate activities and foster relationships among stakeholders and staff to ensure awareness about current and emerging library activities and so messages are consistent, timely, and effective. (8%)
  • Leads the planning and execution of large special events and works in partnership with the Exhibitions and Programming librarian. (7%)
  • Work with library leadership to determine appropriate strategies for outreach and engagement priorities both internally and externally, and maintain knowledge of academic library issues, actions, and plans. (7%)
  • Cultivate a work environment that promotes and maintains an environment and culture of empathy, collaboration, and respect. (6%)
  • Plan, administer, and monitor program budgets. (6%)
  • Implement effective project management and assessment strategies and develop short- and long-term goals. (6%)
  • Develop an annual event and media calendar to outline plans for specific activities and events to build awareness and avoid overlap. (6%)
  • Develop strategies, guidelines and training for staff to advance effective engagement with the academic community and the general public. (6%)

Requirements

  • Experience: 3 or more years of related work experience in outreach and engagement.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Required Skills
  • Creative, goal-oriented, and enthusiastic individual with excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in all forms, across all platforms, and with different audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively, and to partner with key personnel throughout the organization.
  • Possess good judgment, tact, discretion, and diplomacy. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with supervising and mentoring staff including clear goal setting, regular feedback, and strong support for growth.
  • Proactive approach to potential problems, excellent problem-solving skills required.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and agile with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers in both virtual and in-person environments.

Preferred

  • Prefer demonstrated design skills, including technical proficiency using software for desktop publishing and graphic design and illustration. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred (particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) and Canva.
  • Willingness to learn and work with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.
