Job Summary

Own integrated communications and brand strategy that aligns with national office, engages diverse audiences, and builds ethical storytelling across print and digital.

  • Own the development and delivery of an integrated plan that engages donors, partners, schools, and families across multiple levels.
  • Maintain a consistent CIS Michigan brand and storytelling voice across platforms, ensuring trauma-informed, audience-appropriate narratives.
  • Lead media relations, earned coverage, and internal communications to drive visibility and alignment with organizational priorities.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Engage diverse audiences via integrated communications and marketing plans across donors, community partners, school staff, volunteers, policymakers, students, and families.
  • Shape a plan adaptable to statewide to schoolwide needs to support CIS of Michigan objectives.
  • Develop assets to strengthen relationships with community partners, districts, and leaders to expand awareness and engagement.
  • Lead campaigns that boost community engagement, organizational priorities, and visibility.
  • Drive strategic communications and ensure messaging consistency with the CIS National Office and across departments and regions.
  • Maintain CIS Michigan brand identity across platforms, ensuring consistent tone, visuals, and voice.
  • Train staff on communications, messaging, and storytelling to develop brand ambassadors.
  • Oversee internal communications to improve alignment and mission awareness.
  • Use analytics and KPIs to evaluate campaign effectiveness and inform strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local and national media, draft press materials, and coordinate interviews.
Requirements
  • A combination of 5-7 years of work or educational experience in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, policy, or public affairs communications strongly preferred.
  • Successful track record in developing integrated communications and marketing strategies.
  • Strong writing, editing, public speaking, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing media relations and serving as a spokesperson.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with digital marketing, website management, social media strategy, and content development.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Google Suite.
  • Analytical skills with experience using KPIs and performance metrics to guide strategy.
  • Supervisory and vendor management experience preferred.
