Responsibilities

• As the Geoscience Communications Specialist, you will support the coordination, development, editing, distribution, and messaging of the agency’s operational earth science and mining information to help inform natural resource management at local, regional, and statewide levels.
• You will be responsible for maintaining and managing website content and coordinating with other communications staff to ensure that the agency's information exceeds professional science communication and publication standards.
• This position is part of the operations program of the agency and supports the Geological Survey and Services (GS&S) program as well as the Mineral Land Regulation and Reclamation (MLRR) program.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or the Behavioral or Social Sciences or related* degree; OR
• Three years technical or higher-level experience* directly related to the position under recruitment
• *Qualifying related education and experience includes: Degree focus in Geology, geography, geomorphology, paleontology, or related physical sciences or experience working as an agency representative and messaging work products such as newsletters, news articles, and press releases to the external parties of interest.

Preferred

• Experience with principles and methods of website information architecture and design layout, techniques of publishing and layout for newsletters, news articles, and press releases
• Understanding and experience in Geology, geography, geomorphology, paleontology, or related physical sciences.
• Presenting scientific and technical information orally in a logical and clear manner to explain programs, projects, or activities to both internal and external audiences.
• A wide range of writing techniques to inform and persuade different audiences with various levels of comprehension.
• Experience writing clear and concise reports, technical reports, and press releases.
• Capacity to maintain unbiased, science-based credibility in the discussion of complex projects amongst a wide variety of audiences, perspectives, and policy agendas.
• Ability to meet numerous firm deadlines with frequent interruptions in daily work schedules.
