Job Description

Unpaid Internship | 100% Remote | U.S. Residents Only | Master’s Degree Required | 15–20 Hours/Week | 4–6 Month Duration

About the Role

Marketeq is hiring a Full-Stack AI Engineer Intern — Frontend-Focused to support frontend implementation, frontend/API integrations, and AI-assisted full-stack development.

This is an unpaid, part-time, graduate-level internship for current Master’s degree students or Master’s graduates only. Applicants must be current U.S. residents and should already have hands-on experience with frontend development, full-stack integrations, and AI-assisted coding tools.

This role is full-stack, but the main focus is frontend development. You should be comfortable building user interfaces, turning Figma designs into responsive screens, connecting frontend screens to backend APIs, and handling common frontend states such as loading, empty, error, validation, permissions, and edge cases.

You will use tools such as Claude CLI, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, MCP tools, or similar AI-assisted development tools to understand documentation, build features, debug issues, refactor code, and prepare work for review.

Internship Details

Schedule: 15–20 hours per week

Duration: 4–6 months

Location: Remote

Eligibility: U.S. residents only

Education Requirement: Current Master’s degree students and Master’s graduates only

Academic Credit: We support academic credit where available through your school or university

Start Date: Immediate availability preferred

Applicants must be current U.S. residents, currently pursuing or have completed a Master’s degree, and legally authorized to participate in a remote internship in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor visas for this internship.

What You’ll Do

  • Build new frontend screens from Figma designs using AI-assisted workflows such as Claude CLI, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools
  • Translate Figma designs into responsive, high-quality frontend implementation
  • Support frontend implementation across local development, staging validation, and production release workflows
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools to generate, review, debug, refactor, and finalize frontend and full-stack implementation work
  • Integrate frontend screens with backend APIs already built by the engineering team
  • Work with authentication flows, API responses, loading states, error states, empty states, validation, permissions, and edge cases
  • Maintain and extend existing frontend components, design system patterns, responsive layouts, backend integrations, and project conventions
  • Use existing component libraries and project conventions instead of inventing unnecessary new UI patterns
  • Debug frontend, backend, API, authentication, data flow, and full-stack integration issues
  • Self-test your work before QA handoff, including functional behavior, user flows, edge cases, data limitations, acceptance criteria, API behavior, and integration behavior
  • Contribute to ticket documentation, including user stories, acceptance criteria, edge cases, data constraints, API notes, implementation notes, and AI workflow notes
  • Write clean PRs with clear explanations of what changed, what was tested, and what still needs review
  • Receive feedback through code reviews, staging reviews, implementation walkthroughs, and QA handoff reviews

Required Experience

  • Currently pursuing or completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, AI Engineering, Computational Analytics, or a closely related technical field
  • Must be a current U.S. resident
  • Minimum 2 years of total frontend development experience through coursework, internships, freelance work, personal projects, open-source work, bootcamps, or shipped products
  • Strong hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript
  • Experience with at least one modern frontend framework such as React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte, Angular, or similar
  • Experience translating Figma designs into working frontend interfaces
  • Experience building responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile screens
  • Experience working with component libraries, design systems, reusable frontend components, or Storybook-style component documentation
  • Experience with frontend state management using tools such as React state, Context API, Zustand, Redux, TanStack Query, Apollo Client, or similar
  • Experience connecting frontend screens to backend APIs and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Basic full-stack understanding, including how frontends connect to backend APIs, authentication, databases, services, and deployment environments
  • Familiarity with authentication flows such as OAuth, JWT, sessions, or role-based access
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude CLI, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools
  • Ability to guide AI tools to generate useful code, then review, debug, refactor, and validate the code before submitting it
  • Comfort working with technical documentation, architecture notes, implementation plans, and existing codebase patterns
  • QA-minded approach to frontend and full-stack development, including the ability to self-test work before QA handoff
  • Comfort working with Git, branches, commits, pull requests, and code reviews
  • Portfolio, GitHub, shipped project, or frontend/full-stack work samples we can review

Strong Preference For

  • Candidates who are frontend-strong and can also handle full-stack integrations
  • Candidates who have hands-on experience using Claude CLI, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI coding tools
  • Candidates who can use AI tools effectively but still understand the code they are shipping
  • Candidates with strong UI judgment and attention to visual detail
  • Candidates who can compare implementation against a Figma design and spot layout, spacing, typography, responsiveness, and interaction issues
  • Candidates who understand frontend/API integration, authentication flows, API states, validation, and error handling
  • Candidates who can debug AI-generated code instead of blindly trusting it
  • Candidates who can test their own work before asking someone else to review it
  • Candidates who think through user flows, edge cases, failed API calls, invalid inputs, permissions, and data limitations before submitting work for review
  • Candidates who are comfortable working inside an existing codebase instead of trying to rebuild everything from scratch

What You’ll Learn

  • How production frontend and full-stack work moves from design to local development, staging, QA handoff, and release
  • How to work inside an existing codebase with established frontend, backend, API, and documentation conventions
  • How to use AI-assisted development tools in a real product environment
  • How to improve AI-generated code through review, debugging, refactoring, and staging feedback
  • How to connect frontend screens to backend APIs and real data flows
  • How to think through frontend and integration quality before formal QA review
  • How to document user stories, acceptance criteria, edge cases, data limitations, API behavior, and implementation notes
  • How to write cleaner PRs and communicate implementation decisions clearly

Nice to Have

  • Experience with accessibility standards such as WCAG
  • Experience with frontend performance auditing
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Vercel, Netlify, Render, AWS, or similar
  • Familiarity with Sentry, LogRocket, Playwright, Cypress, Chrome DevTools, Postman, Insomnia, or similar testing/debugging tools
  • Experience with responsive dashboards, marketplaces, SaaS products, admin panels, or internal tools
  • Experience with backend development using Node.js, NestJS, Express, Django, FastAPI, Rails, Spring Boot, or similar

  • Experience with MCP server integrations, AI agents, prompt engineering, vector databases, embeddings, or repository memory systems

Who This Internship Is Best Suited For

  • This internship is best suited for candidates who already have real frontend development experience and want to grow into stronger full-stack AI-assisted engineers.
  • It is especially well suited for candidates who enjoy frontend implementation, responsive layouts, component behavior, Figma-to-code work, API integrations, authentication flows, and AI-assisted development workflows.
  • You should have enough prior experience to understand technical documentation, work through tickets with guidance, ask thoughtful questions, test your own work, and improve your implementation based on feedback.
