Responsibilities

• Develop and implement press and communications plans for American Progress’ policy work, especially in the areas of economics, health, and disability policy.
• Provide pitching and other press outreach support to American Progress campaigns and other initiatives.
• Collaborate with American Progress’ policy, advocacy, digital communications, events, and government affairs teams to create holistic outreach plans for organization initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of seven years of experience in media and/or communications is required. On-the-record spokesperson experience is strongly preferred.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team and across teams.
• Ability to multitask and to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Entrepreneurial; strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
• Working knowledge of American Progress issues.
• Strong political instincts.
• Ability to build, motivate, and work within a team to accomplish project goals.
• Commitment to the organization’s mission and goals.

Preferred

• On-the-record spokesperson experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a nonprofit, campaign, or local, state, or federal government environment is a plus.
• Reporter relationships, especially on economics, health, or disability beats, is a plus.
