Schedule and Attendance: Full-Time
  • Maintain regular attendance during standard business hours
  • Hybrid schedule with both on-site and remote work, based on organizational needs
  • Ability to attend donor meetings, fundraising events, and community engagement activities, including occasional evenings and weekends

Job Summary
The Director of Individual Giving provides strategic leadership for Animal Humane Society's individual giving program, overseeing fundraising initiatives that support the organization's mission and long-term financial sustainability. This position leads a team of frontline fundraisers while personally managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects. The Director develops fundraising strategies, strengthens donor relationships, monitors program performance, and collaborates across departments to advance organizational priorities and achieve annual fundraising goals.
Job Duties
  • Individual Giving Strategy & Execution
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive individual giving strategy, including annual giving, mid-level giving, major gifts, planned giving, leadership giving, and campaign initiatives.
    • Establish fundraising goals and performance metrics that support organizational objectives.
    • Monitor fundraising performance and adjust strategies to maximize revenue growth.
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and best practices for the individual giving program.
    • Partner with Marketing & Communications and Advancement leadership to execute donor communications and fundraising campaigns.
  • Donor Portfolio Management
    • Personally manage a portfolio of approximately 50 major donors and prospects.
    • Build, cultivate, solicit, steward, and strengthen long-term donor relationships.
    • Identify opportunities to deepen donor engagement and philanthropic support.
    • Collaborate with Prospect Development and Advancement Services to ensure effective donor records and effective moves management.
  • Leadership
    • Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and professional development to individual giving staff.
    • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance discussions, and ongoing feedback sessions.
    • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven team culture.
    • Address employee concerns, support professional growth, and resolve workplace conflicts as needed.
  • Strategic Planning & Collaboration
    • Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer on departmental planning, budgeting, and long-term fundraising strategy.
    • Collaborate with internal departments to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities.
    • Represent the Advancement department on organizational initiatives, committees, and leadership discussions.
    • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to support fundraising success.

  • Work is performed in both office and community settings.
  • Position requires maintaining confidentiality of donor information and sensitive organizational data.
  • Work environment may include occasional exposure to animals, animal-related odors, cleaning products, and noise.
Requirements
Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 5+ years progressively responsible fundraising experience with demonstrated success in individual giving, major gifts, or donor portfolio management.
  • Experience managing donor relationships and achieving fundraising goals.
  • Ability to analyze fundraising performance metrics and develop strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with donor databases, CRM systems, Microsoft office, and related technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing fundraising teams.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising CRM platforms.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor stewardship, and planned giving strategies.
  • Experience working with a nonprofit organization.
  • Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the mission of Animal Humane Society.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Ability to walk construction and project sites.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to travel between organizational locations as needed.
Emotional Demands
  • Ability to work effectively in an animal welfare environment.
  • Comfort walking in environments where humane euthanasia is performed as part of shelter operations.
  • Ability to remain professional while supporting projects in emotionally sensitive settings.
Transportation
  • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel between AHS locations, donor meetings, community events, and other off-site business activities as needed.
