Job Summary

Own strategic public affairs communications for a national gas pipeline trade association, translating policy positions into clear digital outreach, media engagement, and executive-facing materials that support advocacy on Capitol Hill and with agencies.

  • Public affairs leadership: develop advocacy content and messaging for digital audiences and external stakeholders.
  • Media and channel management: shape INGAA Foundation and INGAA communications across website, social, and press, with executive speech support.
  • Collaboration and governance: coordinate with subject matter experts, committees, and outside consultants to align messaging and materials.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains familiarity with the interstate natural gas pipeline industry and the positions of INGAA on public policy (i.e., legislative and regulatory) issues affecting the industry.
  • Plans and executes public communications programs to communicate pipeline industry positions to related industry groups, media, member companies, government and the public.
  • Proactively engages with the media to advance the INGAA and INGAA Foundation mission.
  • In coordination with INGAA subject matter experts, the Communications Director takes the lead in developing advocacy content for digital audiences, use in direct advocacy on Capitol Hill and with executive branch agencies around key policy areas.
  • Manages INGAA’s Communications Committee and the INGAA Foundation’s Outreach, Workforce, and Leadership Committee which includes coordinating with member company chairs, maintaining committee priorities, supporting member engagement, and advancing collaboration among committee members.
  • Primary responsibility for content and management of INGAA and The INGAA Foundation’s public facing digital outlets, including the website and its social media channels, such as Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook.
  • Prepares summary materials for INGAA Foundation studies and reports and develops/implements strategies for public release of these materials.
  • Serves as Secretary to the INGAA Foundation Board of Directors, supporting board governance, official records, meeting materials, and follow-up on board actions.
  • Assists in developing analyses and other materials to support legislative and regulatory positions through a combination of original research, surveys and analysis.
  • Reviews regulatory comments, legislative testimony, advocacy material and other internal and external documents for clarity and public consumption.
  • Works with executives and subject matter experts to develop, manage, and review materials and messaging for executive speeches, presentations, and board meetings.
  • Keeps staff abreast of important media stories affecting the natural gas pipeline industry.
  • Works with other INGAA departments to develop and manage communications to INGAA and INGAA Foundation Board members, and other member company employees engaged with the associations.
  • Coordinates with outside communications consultants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: College degree in communications, marketing or related discipline.
  • Work Experience: - Must have a minimum of 5 years of communications, public relations or related experience in a congressional office, federal agency, trade association, public affairs firm, or policy-focused communications role
  • Experience with natural gas pipeline regulation or FERC, a plus
  • Must have experience managing digital content
  • Experience managing grassroots outreach programs preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Skills: - Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Copy editing abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies and social media platforms
  • Experience with search engine marketing, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords
  • Familiarity with social media marketing
  • Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML, coding, and digital marketing
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign)
