Job Description
Job Purpose & Scope:
Responsible for the development, leadership, and marketing of energy hedging products to support Bank OZK’s Natural Resources Group and other business lines that reside in the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) division. Mentors others within the business unit and facilitates a culture centered around controlled growth, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Builds on the Hedging Products Group platform by adding the capability to offer Bank customers hedging products focused on the energy sector, i.e. oil & natural gas.
- Plays an active role in evaluating and onboarding third party vendors and market makers to support the energy hedging, back-to-back program.
- Executes strategic and tactical plans to ensure development and growth, business development productivity, and financial targets are achieved for the Commodity Hedging Solutions business line.
- Structures, prices, and executes Bank approved energy trades.
- Develops and implements Energy Hedging Policy, that includes defining the scope of the derivatives hedging program, product approvals (swaps, floors, collars, etc.), deal qualifiers, and documentation.
- Implements processes and procedures, including pre-trade requirements, customer suitability, documentation, presentations, post trade & ongoing maintenance.
- Familiar with ISDAs and can act as a liaison between Bank and Customer for negotiations.
- Builds relationships with staff, clients, and financial partners across the Bank to target high quality opportunities.
- Works closely with internal business partners to achieve a positive customer experience while growing the business and enhancing shareholder value.
- Sets strategies and activities to meet annual goals as well as long-range strategic goals.
- Identifies and informs leadership of impactful changes and acts on all assigned initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of finance, hedging operations (with an emphasis in oil & gas hedging), bank systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of derivatives activities, lending, capital markets, and terminology.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations / compliance for derivatives operations.
- Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to utilize discretion and sound judgment in decision making and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate effective leadership presence and credibility.
- Ability to present concepts and their associated risks and exposure in a clear and concise manner to internal business partners.
- Ability to demonstrate strong business acumen and business development skills.
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across functional and organizational groups and build business relationships to achieve the desired objectives of the Bank.
- Skill in using computer and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and necessary specialized software and systems utilized for energy derivatives.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or job-related field, or commensurate work experience required.
- 8+ years of work experience developing and working on a commodity derivatives or related hedging group within a financial institution, required.
- 4+ years of progressively responsible leadership positions in the derivatives space within a financial institution, required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in job-related field, preferred.
- Successful completion of a formal credit college program, commodity / energy hedging training program, preferred.
