Job Description
DIRECTOR OF CLIENT RELATIONS

SUMMARY
As a director of client relations, you are an integral part of a team of hard-working, talented individuals who serve as advisors to some of the world’s largest and most well-known healthcare brands. As the primary client contact, you implement innovative and strategic ways in which we can best serve our clients while honing the communications skills of junior staffers. Working closely with both senior management and junior staffers, you oversee day-to-day management of your client’s account while providing consistent leadership to the team.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Client relations
- Work with MCS senior management and account teams to assess, monitor and nurture relationships with MCS clients to:
- Forge bonds at appropriate levels of the client organization and ensure positive interactions
- Includes regular and frequent outreach/communication
- Provide strategic counsel and advice to clients to help manage potential issues, avert crises, solve problems
- Explore and capitalize on new business opportunities with existing clients
- Initiate and oversee development of new proposals, strategic recommendations and budget for client
Account direction
- Serve as primary client contact and the key conduit between MCS account team/senior management to implement client programs, which should include:
- Allocating account team member resources (includes regular participation in Operations Team meetings)
- Directing team productivity, quality and efficiency and
- Providing day-to-day supervision of /guidance to account supervisor in managing the above
- Serve as senior editor and reviewer on all written and produced materials
- Direct financial management, including invoices and budget trackers
- Observe MCS Health billing/accounting procedures and deadlines
- Provide accurate reporting on estimated client billings and forecasts for client billings on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis; and monitor for changes in goals. This is also applicable to staff forecasting that is reviewed and updated on a weekly basis.
Team Management
- Provide strong leadership and motivation to account teams under your direction. Specifically:
- Promote the MCS vision through daily reinforcement to team members of the importance of providing optimal service; demanding creativity and in-depth thinking; and achieving the best possible results for clients
- Identify problems in team performance/interactions in a timely, direct manner; develop problem-solving strategies, involving senior management and HR as necessary
- Encourage team performance and continued development and growth by providing positive feedback and making position-appropriate, challenging assignments
OVERALL AGENCY GROWTH RESPONSIBILITIES
New business development
- Support new business development process
- Identify potential new business and lead the RFI/RFP process
- Conduct/direct in-depth research on new business prospect's product/category/market
- Analyze research to develop strong point of view on strategic direction; ensure tactical approach taken is consistent with strategy
- Sell MCS Health thinking during presentations in the most dynamic, clearest way possible
- Contribute to efficient and cost-effective handling of new business presentation development process including development of materials to showcase MCS Health’s capabilities, experience and thinking
- Alert colleagues and senior management to potential external and internal opportunities and issues that may affect the health and stability of the agency; provide recommendations for problem solving while leveraging opportunities
Agency growth & impact
- Strengthen the agency by:
- Actively applying learnings from trainings, workshops, and industry experience to strengthen client strategy, team performance, and overall approach, and share those learnings with others
- Contributing to and helping shape agency thought leadership and strategic insight development (e.g., bringing forward ideas, trends, or perspectives that influence strategies, POVs, or team discussions)
- Supporting and contributing to agency visibility through external participation and taking initiative to represent the agency when opportunities arise (e.g., industry events, content, or client expertise)
- Mentoring and developing team members through ongoing coaching, feedback, and support, helping prepare them for the next level
- Supporting hiring and helping build strong teams (e.g., participating in interviews, identifying strong talent, contributing to team culture and retention)
- Identifying opportunities to improve how teams work and implementing better processes, collaboration, and ways of working
- Representing the agency in a positive and professional way and contributing to attracting talent (e.g., referrals, networking, job fairs)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, journalism, or related field
- 6-7 years of experience in the field of public relations, with some healthcare-specific experience
- Proficiency in software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and AI platforms including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.
- Highly proficient in social media strategy and knowledge of how healthcare audiences use the internet for information
- Meticulous writing and editing skills, including attention to detail, word usage, sentence structure, grammar and punctuation, and conscientious incorporation of copy edits
- Experience managing mid-size and large client accounts, including overseeing day-to-day activities, supervising junior staffers and managing budgets
Salary: $120,000–$155,000
The base salary range listed represents the pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
