Job Description
Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking a dynamic, community-focused leader to serve as Director of the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Small Business (CIESB). This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping others launch, grow, and sustain successful businesses while making a meaningful impact in the local economy.
The Director plays a vital role in advancing economic mobility in Cumberland County by providing education, training, counseling, and technical assistance to aspiring and existing business owners. This role also works collaboratively across the college to connect entrepreneurship with workforce development initiatives, strengthening pathways for students and the community.
We are looking for someone who brings an entrepreneurial mindset, a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to build relationships across diverse populations, with a background in small business development.

Duties
Essential Duties—Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all Center functions, including planning, delivering, and continuously improving programs, seminars, workshops, and events.
- Provide one-on-one, confidential business counseling to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners in accordance with SBCN guidelines.
- Manage and administer all aspects of Small Business Center programs to support the development, growth, and sustainability of small businesses.
- Maintain accurate client records and ensure timely reporting, including required data entry in systems such as CenterIC/Center and other institutional platforms.
- Develop, schedule, and evaluate seminars, workshops, and training programs aligned with the needs of the business community.
- Recruit, contract, and coordinate counselors, instructors and presenters; provide orientation, support, and evaluation of instructional and content quality.
- Build and sustain strategic partnerships with local businesses, Chambers of Commerce, economic development agencies, and community organizations.
- Collaborate closely with FTCC academic and workforce development departments to create integrated pathways that support entrepreneurship, employment, and regional economic development.
- Promote Small Business Center services through outreach, marketing, class visits, public speaking, and community engagement activities.
- Serve on internal and external committees and represent the College in entrepreneurship, workforce, and economic development initiatives.
- Coordinate and lead the CIESB Advisory Board.
- Provide referrals to appropriate agencies, resources, and partners to support client success.
- Maintain active relationships with lenders, business organizations, and support agencies to expand access to capital and resources.
- Collect, analyze, and report program data to support accountability, continuous improvement, and demonstrated impact.
- Manage budgets and resources associated with the Small Business Center.
- Participate in professional development and SBCN training to remain current with best practices.
- Supervise support staff, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the College’s administration.
- Comply with all applicable policies, including NC SBCN Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Agreements, and adhere to SBCN and institutional standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or related field.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in small business development, business ownership, or a related leadership capacity, including experience in corporate, small business, or startup environments with responsibility for financial and operational decision-making (e.g., budgeting, P&L oversight, or similar functions).
- Ability to comply with and uphold all NC State Small Business Center Network (SBCN) Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Agreements, as well as applicable SBCN and FTCC policies, processes, and standards.
- Disclosure of having served as a principal officer or owner of any business that filed for bankruptcy within the past seven (7) years is required.
- Communication, both oral and written, skills necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a range of digital media and communication platforms.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or related field.
